Default Why does paypal ask for ss#.

I have had a pp account for a long time with no social attached. Why would someone complete that section .Below is what I confirmed along time ago..................They never forced me to complete the other 2.

Just asking the pros on here what the advantages are. Its not like im bringing in over 10 grand a month on paypal.

Below is the paypal check boxes that I have filled back in the day....

PayPal is continually looking for ways to further increase the security of our payments network. If you are an active PayPal seller, we recommend completing these steps so we can continue to offer you a full suite of products and services.

Send a message via Yahoo to philly387

They want your SS# so that either

1. Easier to make you pay back what you owe them if you get in the negative money wise.

2. To confirm you are who you say you are.

They want that vital piece of ID to have control over your usage of their product. They ask for SSN to have a means to verifiy a person. If the paypal account is OK, there are no problems, if the account has problems, good old paypal has a means to trace the account holder. They are acting like a bank but without the regulations that banks have.
What suxs is that paypal says they are safe and protect you.
