Interesting News About USPS 'Delivered' Packages
So I've been noticing more and more people claiming they did not receive packages that have been marked as delivered from the USPS. I know package theft is on the rise. There are also many new security camera products that market towards this problem.
Priority mail insurance only covers lost/damaged mail. Stolen mail is an issue to be taken care of by your local postmaster, and/or filing a police report.
Now for the relevant part of the story and why I made this post- I spoke with the clerk at my local PO about this issue. The clerk told me that the handheld scanners that the mail carriers use record the exact GPS location of where the package is scanned in as delivered.
So in the case of claims for mis-delivered mail, you can have the customer call their local PO with the tracking number, and they can go out and retrieve it if it was mis-delivered.
If they are BS'ing and trying to shoplift your stuff, they usually go away. Of course items sold through Paypal have seller protection when the package is marked as delivered.
Amazon tends to favor the buyer in this situation last I checked.. but it is definitely worth giving the customer the instruction to contact their local P.O. to track down the whereabouts of the package and explain the GPS data information to them.
I did not know that was a thing until the other day, so I wanted to share it here.
