Paypal Chat Option, Contact Us

Paypal has added a new contact option....chat. After a lengthy wait time trying to contact them by phone (literally an hour trying to reach someone), I hung up. Called again this morning and the automated answering machine said there was a chat option online...so I went looking for it. Had 0 wait time and got my issue resolved. But I'm not sure exactly how "safe" it is to use their chat. It might be an attempt to peek at what's going on on your computer or browser. I do know that if you have multiple tabs or windows open that are on the Paypal website, the chat window will automatically load on each one. That's not a big deal, as there are other websites that do the same...but this new "feature" kind of has me on the fence as to what all they can truly see. Any thoughts?

Not sure they can see anything outside the browser so just do things properly and when you contact them do so from the dedicated device using the Dedicated IP solution you have set up for that particular account - things you should be doing anyway.
Other than that minor risk sounds like a pretty decent way to get things resolved - especially for people who get nervous on the phone.

what issue did they resolve for you?

Their chat should be as safe as eBay chat system (which has been around for a little while for US users now). I can't imagine it being much different.

Oh yea of course, I went about things as I normally would do when calling them on the phone. Just wasn't sure if any type of data was collected moreso than usual or what.

A payment issue. I do not think the chat option would work with something like a limitation. But for other "general" questions, it probably will work just fine.

Love the new chat. but same as on the phone, some reps are more useful that others.
Had to close it out and reopen chat twice Tuesday to get feedback removed.
