Default Why does PayPal Request Supplier Information?

I have read a few posts that PayPal will ask for Supplier information if you are a larger seller.

Is this true?

Why would they need to know where you get your items? (I can understand if they are VeRO, High End Fashion, etc.) I import all my items from China and Hong Kong, and other places that I have from Alibaba.com.

(I don't deal with High End Fashion, etc, Brand Name Electronics, Unless I get them used or something) Just Generic As Seen on TV, and I have a few contacts that can get my authentic items for some Brands, again, nothing High End.

All my Invoices and such are in Chinese.

I believe you can still send them your Chinese invoices.

Why? To protect themselves. Stolen goods mean anything to you? paypal and any company overseeing the selling of goods will take steps to ensure that as far as possible everything is 'legal'. They will need to check the invoices to confirm that it is not a scam from a seller. A buyer gets something and pays via paypal but there's no goods... where does that leave paypal?
So that's a couple of reasons why they demand invoices.
