UK MC010 phone call

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the UK MC010 phone call?

I've read a few US and other examples but wondered if any UK customers had gone through it?

Hi Guys,

Just had the MC010 verification call from eBay. It's nothing to worry about at all, no spanish inquisition or anything.

It's a stealth account and i had just listed my first item and got an MC010 within 10 minutes of clicking 'list your item'.

I scheduled the call for 1040 and they called at exactly 1040. I gave them the number I used to register the account and do the original phone verification code, which is a voipfone number, and it worked fine. I guess you have to make sure your computer has a microphone.

It rang and I said 'Hello'

eGay: Please could I speak to Mr xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx (first and last name or the account holder)

Me: That's me

eGay: Hello, I'm calling from eBay, I'm calling to talk to you about your eBay account, you scheduled a verification call for today.

Me: That's fine

eGay: OK, please can you give me the username of your ebay account?

Me: xxxxxxxxxx

eGay: Perfect, OK, Can you give me the physical address that the account is registered too?

Me: (Gave him address and postcode)

eGay: Perfect, erm.... what can I ask..... Oh, can you tell me the item you are trying to sell

Me: Yeah, a used mobile phone

eGay: Which one exactly?

Me: Yeah, a Nokia 5800

eGay: Perfect, OK, that's all I need right now, I'll pass it on to the relevant department.

Me: Thanks

He obviously just had my account details in front of him and had to ask 3 questions about it. I can't really see the point in it - maybe it's just to weed out the ones scared of getting a telling off. Unless they scan your voice for signs you're lying or save your voice and run it through a database to check for multiple calls, but I doubt it.

Also, the guy wasn't from the UK, so i wouldn't worry about having the wrong accent for the part of the UK you're listed as, or don't sound the right age.

I'm anticipating getting an email now, either telling me the account is fine to use or telling me to fax in my ID. Have to wait and see.

Wow thanks for sharing mate.

So, unfortunately I got an MC081 from ebay and a notice of limitation 10 minutes after the call

BUT ALL IS NOT LOST!

I just realised that I answered a question wrong - the question about which item i was listing. I'd made a spreadsheet of answers so that I could give them quickly but hadn't included that, so I had to try and remember but I got it wrong.

I have another 3 MC010 calls set for tomorrow, so i will post back with the questions asked and I'll try and create a fairly comprehensive database of the questions that are asked.

Hi Mate,

I'm not sure. I was changing my ip but i solved it by switching to a mobile broadband dongle.

See:

Well, strangely no calls came through today. Have rescheduled for later in the week.

Any update?

peghmeypong 06-29-2010 10:40 AM

Hi guys -

Unfortunately I'm basically an idiot and i fell over a shoe on the stairs whilst holding a computer and broke my shoulder so with being in and out of hospital and with my folks being around i've missed all of the calls I had organised (about 4).

What I have learnt is that you can miss an appointment and rebook another one using the same link as long as it's within 4 or 5 working days. Once it goes past that, you get a MC081 from paypal and you need to submit docs.

I'm going to try and deliberately get some MC010s and book for tomorrow as i'm more settled with the old arm now.

Basically more embarrassed and inconvenienced now than in pain. Serves me right.

Get better soon jodaco.

eBay didn't call me back, has this happened to you?

peghmeypong 07-08-2010 09:21 AM

Hi forummember, yeah - that's happened a lot to be honest. I'm not sure why it isn't working. I had one scheduled today that didn't come through. I'm gonna try with using another mobile sim as opposed to VOIP as soon as they jailbreak the iPhone 4.0 software.
