Hmm...
Actually lighting is perhaps more important than camera for product shoots.
I probably can take very good photos with your camera with my lighting setup.
Direct flash is very bad for product photography.
Fortunately, lighting setup for product shoot can be very simple and inexpensive.
You can get a product shoot kit for $100+ new.
The most basic setup which is more than sufficient is 2 lights and a light tent.
Look on eBay - you may find a good deal and can get feedback at the same time.
You can also DIY this.
There are also other low-budget solutions.
Google is a good teacher and resource.

If you are into this as a serious business and have a range of products and may expand or change products, then the photography equipment is a good and necessary investment IMO.
The photo is a major factor of online selling, in my experience.
I've sold products that did not sell well with one photo, but sold like hotcakes when I changed the photo to one taken from another angle.
The photos were taken of the exact same item but one appealed to people more.
So take photos from different angles and views and it is best if you can post more photos.
I post more photos if I'm selling an expensive item but usually just one if it's cheap, due to fees.

I too have had a listing removed when only having catalog picture. I called and agent suggested I take my own pictures. That was the only advice they could offer. Even though I did mention its catalog. Once I had listing removed because it said Manufacture warranty. I never added warranty info so I was stumped. Kept checked my Auctiva and nowhere did it have warranty. It was not until I actually checked ebay and realized it was in the extra catalog info I added to listing. It was SONY... I emailed vero and they kept repeating that SONY warranties info is false claim and listing needed to be removed either way.

Got back with ebay and they said I had to contact SONY. Total run around. I took screen shots and everything. Emailed it to Sony and Ebay.

After a week I contacted ebay again and they said they sent the info and someone will get back. They never did. After 3 months it just fell off. Now I check that catalog and the warranty info is gone. They fixed it and I was never at fault, yet after 10 calls and many hours. Nobody ever fixed my end.

Yes, that's how eBay works.
They will fix themselves but they will never fix things for you.

Are you the first time selling??
eBay lets you post the first photo free but you will have to pay listing fees to add more photos.
In some categories, they let you add more photos for free.
All this will be stated in the listing form.
I think Auctiva lets you post more photos for free.

I am aware of this. However, I meant why don't you add more pictures in the description section so that you list as many as pictures you want without paying more fees.
Anyway, Ebay will offer more free pictures in July so we don't have to worry about fee. But I still like to add larger pictures in description section.

I don't do it just because its troublesome.
I was planning to "upgrade" my listings and use Auctiva to get my listings with templates, more photos, gallery, etc. etc... all that more professional looking stuff and all.
Then.... I got restricted....

You can never know for certain.
I think that just having one of my issues may not restrict the account, but I just happened to have all the issues coming onto the account at the same time.
All nothing major but when you get hit by minor issues here and there, it may look real bad.
Real unfortunate.... sighhhhh...

Anyway, now I've not sold for one month.
I've just had both paypals linked to this account limited but have got them unlimited.
I'll pay my fees.
Then I'll try to call them again.
Hopefully I get someone nice.

If they do reinstate me, I'll sell different things on this account...
I've got lots of different stuff to sell anyway.
This is an old account by the way, and real, not stealth.
All documents with PP had been sent in before too... the PP with it is fully fully verified in all ways with no limits.

This past month eBay UK has been having many 0 insertion fee weekends.
It's here again this weekend.
Sighhh... missing all the freebies... lol.

That's the problem, take your own pictures. Or you're trying to sell something really risky and stupid like P90X, rosetta stone, chi hair straighteners etc..which doesn't matter no matter how you list them.

LOL @ people who think that you would get flagged simply because your listing didn't have you own photo. Such newbies ... Don't you already know that eBay and or Paypla LIE to you when they give you reason aka: other members reported you or you have stock photos or other **** like that. I have tested listings that has nothing inside it was flagged. My point is ... EBay does not allow VERO, end of story! Especially if you don't have established feedback history. But even when you do and you sell vero they can still easily pull it and flag your account. UNDERSTAND ?!?!!?!>? :canada:

I agree that eb and pp lie and I never trust what they say.
They just find excuses for what they want to do to you.
If you ask them the real reason, sometimes you get someone who tells you the truth... and that is "we are unable to disclose the reason."
At least that's the truth.... all the others are stories.
You have to be real lucky to meet someone who will tell you the truth.

As to your comments about the LOL @ newbies.
That's not very nice and I don't think many of them who gave the advice to take your own photos think that the account is flagged because of the photo.
The advice to take your own photos is valid because eb does have policies against use of other people's photos, and those are one of their rarer valid policies as this pertains to legal issues.
You are threading on eggshells when you use something that you pull off the web as you never know what copyrights come with it.
This applies to all uses for any photos that you take from the web, not just eb.

By default, photos have all rights reserved to the photographer.
As long as you take a photo, you own the full rights to that photo and noone else can legally use it without your approval.
You don't have to see a lawyer or sign anything to own the rights.
This is by default.
The photographer can change the rights of the photo by entering into an legal agreement with other parties.
This involves signing documents.
He can sell the full rights to another party, or he can allow other parties the right to use but still own full copyrights.
There are also lots of other more complicated kinds of rights and stuff, as you can imagine.

If I take a photo and post it on the web, I own the full copyrights but I may approve for anyone to take it from the web and use it for anything they like.
Or I MAY NOT approve of anyone using my photo... here's where the problems can come if I wish to pursue it.
Therefore, the only safe photo to use is the one taken by yourself, as you own the full rights and are legally free to do anything you like to it.
So this rule is golden: ALWAYS TAKE YOUR OWN PHOTOS.

With regards to photos, vero and ebay... well, it's also good advice because even if your photos do not directly cause ebay to flag your vero listing, if you have a problem with eb due to vero, do you really want an additional problem with regards to the photo?
Compounding more faults into the vero listing is of course a bad thing to do.

I think it's both VERO team that looks for ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and trust and safety. But there are ways to avoid both.

I think it's much worse if you are selling the items of an 'aggressive' VERO team.
They have a very specific focus as they are just looking for their brand so its much easier for them to catch you.

You have some good strategies to avoid vero?
