Default Help with Ebay extorter!!

Hi guys been off ebay for afew months, Only to come back on to this threat via ebay message center

"Dear @@@@@@@,

Hi my friend brought @@@@@ off you about 5 months ago!!
I have just been recently told by a friend of mine who deals with @@@@@ and he garenteed me they are @@@@!!
now they were 9.99 each so i want £20 sent to my paypal account by 6 tommorow to :@@@@@
if i do not get the money i will be reporting you to trading standards your choice!!

@@@@@@@"

I've always had an unsatisfactory refund/exchange policy, with 99.1% FB. I Have always ignored these types of emails on previous accounts but this person has left a incriminating email which I can report to ebay! I have never actually reported anyone in my 10 years of on and off use of ebay apart from having to make a minimal dispute claims in that time span. I was wondering what you ebay users think about this?

Report him, He cannot prove that you sold him ANYTHING, since he used another Now suspended (I Assume?) Account to make the Purchase, and 5 MONTHS Ago, Report Him, You will have NO Problem

Yes, report him AND do not reply. I bet he sends out 100s of these in a shotgun pattern fishing for money. A friend of a friend? C'mon. Unless he gave the actual transaction item number I call foul.

This looks like a total scam to me. His "friend" bought something from you FIVE MONTHS ago, and now HE wants money???

Nice scam. Look up some closed listings that are approaching the 90 day retention limit, make a note for any closed auctions that contain any copyrighted or trademarked material, then two months later, email a threat to the seller demanding that money be put into YOUR account on behalf of your "friend".

And the "friend" cannot fight his own battles and ask for the money because????

I doubt the original purchaser has any idea of what is happening here. I agree with Slapped. As much as eBay sides with buyers, I cannot imagine them demanding that you issue a refund to a THIRD PARTY after FIVE MONTHS, who had NOTHING to do with the original transaction.

I would report him. He may be scamming others as well. My guess is that the eBay/PayPal account he is using is ⊗⊗⊗⊗.

Yup, my very first thought. These rats always find a way to scam the sellers. And I know it will work, a lot. $20 to save an account [so seller may think] is easy money. Scumbags

PayPal must have a way to report this kind of thing. Get his account closed down

Oh, yes, one other thing.

As has been pointed out many times before in the forums, law enforcement is unlikely to get involved PERIOD, much less over a $20 transaction.

And who cares if he has a transaction number? So he records them and methodically sends emails a couple months later.

ANYBODY can search auctions for this information.

If it were the original buyer using the same eBay ID, then maybe it could be legitimate, but not coming from a third party.

But I bet people fall for this.

I meant the paypal trans. Only buyer would have that. But not relevant. This is pure scam

ebay is full of idiots like this.

Ignore him is my advice. Just be aware that if you use this ebay account for further sales in future this idiot may pop up again.

Most of this kind say a lot of stuff but dont actually do anything but there are a minority that will try their utmost to be a pain.

It may not be for the money. It could be a competitor trying to get your details to pass on to Trading Standards or the Office of Fair Trading. Ignore it. Trading Standards wont act on one complaint.
