I spoke with ebay about the new 10 item/$500 policy. Here is what they told me...

Ok, so ebays new rule for the month is...

You can list and sell up to 10 items or a total of $500, which ever comes first.

Not only that, you can no longer create an account an let it sit. The seasoning of you account does not start until you make your first sale.

After waiting on the phone for an hour, I finally got a rep and I really played dumb and picked her brain and now I am bring this information to home base.

To make this info as clear and easy to read as possible, I will type it in Q&A format.

Me) How long will my account be limited to 10 items or $500?

Ebay) We will review you account at the end of 30 days and if you do "good", we will raise you listing limit.

Me) how much?

Ebay) It depends.

Me) what does it depend on?

ebay) how well you do. (I am shaking my head at this point)

me) Is there a max out point for sellers as far as how many sold listing I can have in a month?

ebay) yes... 100. But if you do "good" you can open an ebay store and sell more than 100.

To make a long story short, consider you first 60 to 90 days selling on ebay as a trial period.

The first 30 days just focuse on cheap items and feedback.

The next 30 days focus on feedback and intergrating items that will make you some profit.

Last 30 days, keep feedback up and list more profiatble items!

I spoke with this rep for a while, played dumb and asked the same questions in different ways and she gave the same answer each time.

My guess is that ebay figures that we will not have the patience do deal with this new rule but boy are they wrong. Yes it does slow s down, but we are not out!

What you will need to do is, start listing asap because that is when they start considering you account a "real" sellers account and that is when the clock really starts ticking.

Here is what I am planing to do...

1) I will open multiple stealth accounts so that I will never have this problem again.

2) I will us my ten listing for the first 30 days, I will not be looking to make money. I am basically going to give away my products with free shipping. Why, because all I care about at this point is getting 5 star feedback from my customers and building my credibility with eBay.

3) Assuming eBay lifts my limits after 30 days to lets say, 20 items, I will now beging to implement selling some of my more proitable items along with my BS items. My BS items are meant to do one thing, produce more positve feedback for me.

4) After 60 days you should have some good feedback and eBays trust, this is when you want to open an ebay store. Why? Because it will allow you to list and sell more items. They lady from ebay told me that once you open an ebay store, you will be able to do more business as opposed to a regular sellers account.

Sorry about the super long post, I am just so happy to be here, sharing with like minded people. Feels great!:typing:

re: your post

nice post, sharing your info helps us a lot, cheers to that!

Here an idea for building feedback without loosing money:
Im going to start 10 new accounts and implement a few of the ideas you have given and build my feedback. I just bought a Lot of 600 Pentium 4 computer processors which is a nice lot to resell each 1 by 1 and pretty much break even or make a couple dollars with free first class USPS shipping while building feedback at the same time. Just about any lot on eBay will do, if you resell each individual unit you will break even or make a small profit with a new eBay account.

Solid post - hope you achieve what you need.

simplyhaeley 12-22-2010 11:47 AM

As, I learn I will keep sharing with you guys.

cardfelon 12-22-2010 11:52 AM

Glad to see that your contributing to the forum. Welcome!

simplyhaeley 12-22-2010 12:28 PM

Forums works best we we give as much as we take.

rsot 12-22-2010 12:47 PM

Very true - and build cred.

imjustme 12-22-2010 12:52 PM

I agree with everything except for the limits increased after 30 days. It depends on the categories you sell in. If you sell clothing, they will let you list 10 items even the 2nd or 3rd month. If you sell sewing material, for example, they will let you list more.

I sell clothing, been around 60 days for some of my accts, still have 10 listing limit.

simplyhaeley 12-22-2010 01:05 PM

Good to know about the clothing. I will stay away from that. what about cell phones?

rsot 12-22-2010 01:19 PM

Cell phones just like all electronics are all dangerous - considered high-risk unless you are VERY established and even then - rough.

holymoly 12-22-2010 01:59 PM

Great post, beware of selling electronics...Yall should sell some ebooks or REAL books to get those sales. Cheap, easy, sometimes make a few bucks.

Even worse, it's actually "from the date of your first successful sale". What they mean by that, I don't know. Possibly when the first item is sold, or when the first sold item is paid.

Excellent Post,,I am VERY happy to See a New Member Here CONTRIBUTING as well as Learning,,That is what this is all about,,,

To add,,and also agree with my Fellow Executive Members above,,,

What the ebay Rep told you is Accurate but incomplete,,,as Mentioned above,,,The Catagories and Specific items that you sell are KEY,,,,Its not just Clothing,,,The Higher the Risk Ebay/Paypal see in your activity the slower they will be to raise your Limits,,,

Believe me,,,as Pointed out above,,If you are selling Sewing Supplies like thread,,, your selling limit will move A LOT Faster and SMOOTHER,,than an account selling DVD Boxsets,,,Gauranteed!!!

simplyhaeley 12-22-2010 06:51 PM

Good info guys. I will get started on selling some some lowkey items and the take it up a notch.

GreenBean 12-22-2010 06:53 PM

However, if you take a quantum leap to high risk items, after selling the sewing material, they will not allow too much of their being sold. It still comes down to seller credibility.:peace:

simplyhaeley 12-22-2010 07:21 PM

I will start with some cheap cell phone charges and screen protectors and them move on to some smaller cheaper cell phones, that way I am in the same "genre" of products.

Thanks to all for the advice.

lakeman 12-22-2010 08:27 PM

eBay will get you for feedback manipulation. It's best to start out with items over $5.

jbluntz 12-22-2010 11:03 PM

I just sold a brand new ebay account to someone, not to anyone here, it's not even a week old w/ 0 fb and he already sold a 3 thousand dollar car and now he's got another 3k car listed along with a 20k motorhome, amazing what ebay let's you do.

Not really,,,It only proves what we Know to be true here on the Forum,,,

What you are selling is MORE Important in Ebay/Paypals Eyes than the Amount of Money involved in the transaction in MANY Cases,,,,

Think about those items,,,,,Cars,,Motorhomes,,,Boats,,ect,,ect,,

Those are the type of items that are Normally Picked Up,,Paid for On the Spot,,,,Buyer to Seller,,,VERY Unlikley that those Items are Stolen or Counterfeit,,,,

Ebay/Paypal sees items like that as MUCH LESS Of a Risk than a Cell phone or iPod or DVD Boxset,,,,

jbluntz 12-22-2010 11:22 PM

If that's the case then, ebay motors seems like the place to be, just hope the guys not a scammer.

jbluntz 12-23-2010 12:21 AM

And just to update the second 3k car just sold and he just listed a 6k van and a 30k firetruck! no joke lol and the account was made 2 days ago.

pod 12-23-2010 01:01 AM

Great info. Thanks for sharing

I have never been a fan of running away from accounts when a little trouble comes up and this means an established account is more valuable.

Again, cheers for the share

jbluntz 12-23-2010 01:10 AM

Yeah me neither but after watching this guy sell 2 cars and list a van, firetruck and a motorhome all in 2 days lol on an account that I made, it looks like you don't need to be too established on ebay motors.

GreenBean 12-23-2010 01:43 AM

jbluntz 12-23-2010 01:48 AM

simplyhaeley 12-23-2010 08:46 AM

I put up a post yesterday about how to get bank accounts for verifying paypal and now it is gone.

I posted it in the subscribers forum and I think that it was a pretty sweet plan.

I am new here so if I did something wrong plese tell me.

I was just sharing my ideas, I thought thats what we do here.

What do I do if I need help, I mean specific help!

I am trying to learn the ways of the wise!

.

I have some good ideas guys, I am not your regular newbie.

I think outside the box.

So, what is the portocol if you have a great idea that should not be exposed to just anyone?

rsot 12-23-2010 10:04 AM

@jbuntz, there was confirmation a while back by diff forum poster about ebay motors functioning somewhat differently from eBay - even the sales and 21 day holds...funny nd ridiculous.

Um, no it was NOT a sweet plan. Not the way we go.

By all means be a thinker but not that way.

(think grey areas :spy:)

The ebay motors thing is no longer accurate. Its starting to function like the regular ebay.

GreenBean 12-23-2010 10:15 AM

Wonder why? LOL. Too many stealthers there and too much blathering about how good ebay motors are

aking 12-23-2010 10:36 AM

yup, thats exactly what happened

simplyhaeley 12-23-2010 10:36 AM

Well the only way for me to learn is to try and fail and try again. No shame here. I am doing mey best.

jamblix 12-23-2010 10:46 PM

Thanks...this conversation just reminds me of how useless eBay and Paypal's "answers" are. None of their answers are specific which is frustrating, they can basically make up **** as they go along to do whatever is in their favor. Like a kid creating his/her own rules to a game, it's not fair.
