Used household items are great. Unwanted stuff etc.

Baseball cards would be fine.

Here is what I would personally do and I can guarantee you it will work.

1. NEVER sell VeRO or ANYTHING you think or my get you in trouble. It may work once, it may work 10 times, but it only takes once to start all the way back to (0) feedback and most times you get booted when you have a 100% positive track record with 500+ feedback.

2. Buy stuff people actually want! Dont sell a crappy t shirt or hat that you know someone wont buy. This will only take up another listing that you already have a limited amount of. You need to list items that is GUARANTEED to get you positive feedback and is GUARANTEED to sell.

3. You should go to walmart and buy some stuff around the $10 range and start it at .99 with .99 shipping. If you think I am crazy then so be it, but a $10 item will sell for $6-7 minimum, so basically you bought seller feedback for $3, big whoop. If you can find anything around the house that will sell with no customer complaints than do that by all means, but if you have nothing, then buy some cheap crap people buy on a daily basis, and sell it to get feedback. You need to get a proven track record, and this is an easy easy way. It seems unlogical or unreasonable, but in the end you will be paying $30-50 for anywhere from 15-25 feedback. I can guarantee you that there are a lot of people on here that would do that in a heart beat. Once you start to get that proven track record people will have no problem buying stuff from you.

@jryan, some good advice but personally, I prefer to not spend a penny on feedback.

Break-even should be your aim if not profit, figures always add up and though feedback is often invaluable, I see no need to pay for it.

@brog, no need for specific items from walmart, you could sell anything and lose money.

^ I would suspect that many people buy things from dollar shops, auctions, flea market etc and then resell them on eBay.

You would be fine with this, may even make profit if you find some real gems. Just stick to the criteria of non Vero and cheap items. That is best way to play it safe.

I Keep things simple. What you have to realize is the fact that there are thousands of ebayers all on a feedback quest.
This is what i do to build all my new accounts.
I buy a pack of 25 or 50 papermates (pens) per week. I list one as a private auctions starting at 1 penny per piece free shipping. Category office supplies.
Normally Bidders on the quest for feedback will bid each pen up to 1.00 or so.Upon closing I send second chance offers to all bidders. So off each pen listing i sell around 8 on average.
Each listing gets a quick 5 feedback since the bidders want the same as you a quick reputation.
Since the auctions are private no one will ever see what you sold or how much for they will only see the feedback.
Make sure you list also other things non-private so there is a balance and you do not raise any flags.
For a very minimal investment you can gain steady feedback and also balance your DSR just in case you get any negs along the way.
This system has worked for me for many years. You are not limited to pens and you can use your imagination.
These are some of my regulars on all accounts
I have sold pens, pencils
shaped paperclips and call the paper clip sculptures under art
Garden seeds
my own photography-Digital delivery
plant cuttings
sheets of paper with cute scribbles-My childs art BS
string spools, sewing needles
screws, nails and so on
jewerly beads. You can buy a huge pack anywhere and sell as randomly picked art beads
Grocery coupons Normally free at all supermarkets

THE KEY IS THERE IS AN UNDERSTANDING THAT PEOPLE WHO BUY AND SELL THESE THINGS DO IT FOR FEEDBACK.Search and you will find many many powersellers do this.
Hope this helps

There is no rule as so many seem to think. It doesnt matter what anyone says becuase everyone sells different items and NONE of us know what ebay uses for criteria really.

All you need to do is sell something that is listed accurately and is going to make the buyer happy. Happy customers wont file BS claims.

List all imperfections clearly. mention them over and over if you need to. You would be very surprised to see that people bid about the same price for used with a scratch then they do with a new similar product. its odd how it works.

when you send it email them when you get the payment and when you send it.

Post feedback As soon as you get payment.

Just kiss their ass and get them something they will like with NO issues. then you are good to go.

Throw in some freebie stuff if you have to. I used to and people LOVE it. I got emails from nearly ALL customers telling me how much they appreciated it. That leads to great DSR's for sure.

Just something cheap. Its the gesture that matters here.

Why not make paper airplanes and sell them? Super low risk?

That is irrelevant. do what the people on here tell you which is please the customers and you will be fine. Did you read the Stealth Book and research on here very thoroughly?

Asking simple questions like this makes me think you will have much more trouble with more important issues regarding IP's, etc. Please be careful or you will always be in the same boat.
