Putty Telnet/SSH client - VPS connection

As anyone purchased a US VPS with Dedicated IP address I'm currently having technical difficulties, connecting my Putty Telnet/SSH client to my VPS via SSH connection. So that I can use the virtual machine via Firefox to access my eBay account from a Static IP address in the USA, I'm from the UK so a VPS would be Ideal for US eBay instead of a VPN. I've set Putty accordingly when it takes you to the CMD window it prompts me to enter my user *****, I click enter then I enter my root password for some reason it camouflages the password input. But when I click enter it says "Access Denied" tried it several times and still no luck!, I've been doing everything right that I know of and I can't figure out why?. Although it's a Linux VPS and some people have had the same problem I've encountered over the Internet. So any help is appreciated!!.

On some flavors of Linux, root access from a remote console is restricted. Contact your ISP for a work around. You should be able to log in as a user then use the 'sudo' command to accomplish whatever you need.

This is a problem that we can't help you with. You need to contact the host who is hosting your shell.
