Alert!!! Slow sales on ebay!

Is it just me or eBay sales are indeed slow? It seems like a lot of seller are complaining how slow as of late their sales are. Also many sellers complain that they get a lot of non paying bidders. Anyone?

imjustme 10-15-2011 04:40 AM

October is always slow, because people are saving money for Christmas gifts.

stanislav 10-15-2011 04:50 AM

Yes but not like this to be honest. So are you saying November is going to be a much better month? In my opinion the economy is so bad that no body had anymore money to spend.

RedShootingStar 10-15-2011 05:22 AM

Consistent Sales for me on both venues. Friday-Sunday sales x4. Holidays Sales x20. You may want to evaluate what you are selling.

imjustme 10-15-2011 07:54 AM

It all depends what you consider good sales or bad sales. I usually average 30/day and right now it's at around 15-17.

30 a day? Whats your average selling price?

imjustme 10-15-2011 10:26 AM

About $50. I used to sell 40-50 per day but slowed down because it's too much stress. I'd rather make less money and have more free time.

RedShootingStar 10-15-2011 10:29 AM

Thats not too bad.....I stick with items around $12-30, with a few in the $50-100 range, but average 600+ transactions a day.

BiN4RY 10-15-2011 12:29 PM

Just wait until late november, sales will skyrocket

HurricaneHuntr 10-15-2011 12:45 PM

600 a day? wtf... how many people do you employ?

600 transactions day......by yourself.......I do about 90-115 at a actual store location, and currently employe about 7-9 ppl at a time and are still very busy. You should right a book on how to accomplish this.....:hail:

What a stupid thing to say. A lot of people simply makes their living off of their own business. Would you also say all employees with full time jobs also have no lives?

work is life....so saying you have no life cause you work is pointless regardless.

UnderBites08 10-15-2011 05:48 PM

I think a lot of people get on these forum and just bull sh**t. "Men lie numbers dont"

MichaelW 10-15-2011 06:03 PM

Some people, like me, are workaholics, and loving it. I work 16-18 hours a day, no joke. So does my wife. When it gets too much, we take some time off.

600 transactions as mentioned above is perfectly doable. It all depends on how you manage them. I have most of my orders automated. I even have my own system of printing labels. I just copy & paste the addresses from the PayPal orders into the system and it prints them by itself 12 per page. My wife puts the items into the packages and puts the labels on them, we take them to the post office together, done.

And we do no more than 30 per day.

jbluntz 10-15-2011 06:34 PM

You can do it even faster with paypal multi-order shipping. I keep most of my inventory pre-packed in bubble wrap envelopes all under 13 0z. Then have all orders for the day imported from paypal, no copy and paste, then printed out in a few minutes or less, slapped on the packages and dropped down any USPS mail box.

Nothing like quality time with the wife. I guess 600 sales of little things is doable. In the auto parts industry there is a lot more to it.

KingRay 10-15-2011 07:18 PM

600 is pretty good, I dont think it takes as long as some people think. once you get to that level you have figured out all the shortcuts and way to make life easy on you.

As for sales being different, Mine are up quite a bit but it all just depends on what you sell I guess. I have a great niche that kinda works in good and bad economy because when its down a completely different group of people buy from me. kinda odd actually.

When your sales are down the best thing to do is figure out why. There is usually something else at fault you have not figured out yet. If its just the economy then change the way you sell or the product itself. you have to be creative to get ahead these days. There are too many competitors with the internet.

FandangoKango 10-15-2011 07:48 PM

600 sales a day I would be happy!

Sales also depend on what you are selling!

The new hippies are in the streets looting and not on their Ipad buying using Mommy and Daddys money is the reason why sales are down.

:D

I am selling mostly cheaper items right now, sales are not slower but I did notice they higher dollar items are not moving as much lately.

With the newly found wholesaler near me having items I am not familiar with I am hoping to grow more sales as I research the items and competition.

Sometimes I think it has to do more with the time listed, write up, feedback etc as people become very picky who they buy from when money is tighter.

I am seeing more sales with free shipping attached then ever before.

ensignia 10-16-2011 12:03 AM

I sell expensive cellphones and have noticed a massive decrease in sales and activity the past few weeks even though prices are lower and normally sell for much more. I think the new iPhone is responsible for my personal sales slump.

RedShootingStar 10-16-2011 05:21 AM

In general.......Expensive Items = Small market, low traffic, more problems.

This is not a knock of expensive items, but personal experience leads me to stick with 10-25 items. People have no issue dropping a $20 on something they need compared to a couple hundred dollars.

MichaelW 10-16-2011 10:17 AM

You rock bro

I haven`t noticed anything. In fact, I wouldn`t mind having slow sales now so I have more time to get ready for the insanity that will come late November/early December.
Woohooo

It takes a minimum of 30 seconds to pack each thing for shipping.
30s x 600 = 18000s = 5H.

So if this guy is super-mega-efficient then sure he can manage that but there's no way he has any sort of life if he has a full time job on top of that.

Unless you don't sleep?

stanislav 10-17-2011 07:57 PM

First of all he said 600+ transactions. So it's more than 600. To be honest it's very difficult for me to imagine that someone can sell more than 600+ items per day on eBay. If his average transaction is 10$, it means that he is selling for at least 6,000$ per day. This comes to 180K+ every month. With 5000$ per month selling limit that are given to so many sellers on eBay it's difficult do imagine that someone will be allowed to sell more in one day what others are not allowed to sell in a month. Hmmmm ...

Right, just because you're incapable of making such quantity of sales it must mean no one else can

I know of one company now that clears over 1 million per month on ebay alone. The sell large machinery, etc.

Imagine the fees on that????????

Hello this may help! If you have a sale you make a sale! eBay for some reason show you more if you have a sale on. This weekend i made 80 sales because i am having 5% off everything! I also purchased an eBay calculator to calculate my sales so i have enough on my prices to still make money and i can also offer Free shipping on some products and not lose out on costs the calculator has been awesome you can see eBay costs, PayPal costs postage costs and profit costs its been a god sent!! Hope this helps. Regards Connie

Sandy D 10-17-2011 11:47 PM

I know an huge antique dealer who sells on average of 200-250 items per day every day.

He has his wife and a daughter doing the listing and packing and he does the buying.

He said he did 300k on ebay last year.

He tells me he and his wife both put in 16-18 hours per day and in most days do not get everything done even with the daughter helping.

Not that is cannot be done but 600 items in one day, picturing, listing, answering questions, printing labels, packing, shipping etc it would be almost impossible for one single person to this this and work an 8 hour job and have a life of taking care of yourself, eating, cleaning your home etc.

I have sold 300 items in a a day before and without some help from the DH and the kids no way in hell could I have done all the work to get everything done to go to the PO the next day.

So for me, totally impossible for 600 items to be sold, packed etc along with an 8 hour day at work by one single person and do the everything that needs done in a day on top of that.

Without telling us the product, mind sharing your amazing organization skills that allow you to do 600 items in one day? All by yourself with no help at all?

My damn printer wont print that fast. :D

waterproof 10-18-2011 12:16 AM

All of this depends on what you sell and in some cases the Season. For example...don't sell Christmas in July or Camping equipment in January. If you want to significantly lower your non-payers, then alter/change your Buyer Requirements. It does help.

Good luck,
