Just wanted everyone to know I got a first today. Maybe some of you have had it before but I have never had this happen myself.

Please confirm your identity by entering the last four digits of your SSN.

I placed four digits in the spot to test it and the next thing that popped up was the fact that the SSN does not match the name of the person on the account at that address.

This is a current empty home.

Anyone had this one before?

Are they cross checking addresses with given ssn now?

I dont see how they can even do that. People move every day and to keep track of that would be dumb. Have you give them your ssn on that account ? this must be the one you gave it to them on and they are just wanting to confirm it. dont worry about the address. I dont think that is any issue.

so you cannot sell if you live with a buddy for a while or a dorm room? that doesnt make any sense.

Nope King Ray this is not the account I gave them the SSN. Its a complete 2 year old stealth account with zero problems. Very odd questioning for sure.

The last four digits of a social has nothing to do with name or address it has to do when the ssn was issued so the ssn must match the b-day same time frame anyway. but i never heard or any one getting ask only the last 4 digits.

SSNs are not assigned consecutively; the first was not the lowest number, and the most recent is not the highest. They are assigned regionally and in batches.

The nine-digit SSN, which has been issued in more than 400 million different sequences, is divided into three parts: area numbers, group numbers and serial numbers.

•Area numbers - The first three numbers originally represented the state in which a person first applied for a Social Security card. Numbers started in the northeast and moved westward. This meant that people on the east coast had the lowest numbers and those on the west coast had the highest. Since 1972, the SSA has assigned numbers and issued cards based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the original application form. Since the applicant's mailing address doesn't have to be the same as his residence, his area number doesn't necessarily represent the state in which he resides. For many of us who received our SSNs as infants, the area number indicates the state we were born in. You can find out which area numbers go with each state at SSA.gov: Social Security Number Allocations.

•Group numbers - These two middle digits, which range from 01 through 99, are simply used to break all the SSNs with the same area number into smaller blocks, which makes administration easier. (The SSA says that, for administrative reasons, group numbers issued first consist of the odd numbers from 01 through 09, and then even numbers from 10 through 98, within each area number assigned to a state. After all the numbers in group 98 of a specific area have been issued, the even groups 02 through 08 are used, followed by odd groups 11 through 99.)

•Serial numbers - Within each group designation, serial numbers -- the last four digits in an SSN -- run consecutively from 0001 through 9999.

Although SSNs are issued in some order, there is no simple way to tell a person's age based on his Social Security number.

If you have a 2 year old paypal you will deffinately have your ssn request oneday! Its a gonner. Need a new account to be set up!

Its stupid how they ask for ssn though, but I guess if you receive more than 600 in incentives in the world they ask for ssn so paypal has the right also. I could be wrong. I hope I am! God help us!

yeah all i know if on a stealth paypal the dob is the only thing they could match a ssn to to verfiy it. Like if u had a Pp with a made up name and address then theres no way a ssn would match that since its non existent.

Tried to withdraw 75.00 to a real bank account.

Have been doing it for a long time, never withdraw over 100.00 at a time.

Four digits in they filled in xxx-xx- 0000 They wanted me to fill in the last four digits.

Are u sure the paypal never had a ssn added to it cause how would they know the first 5 dgitis and have them x'ed out

I know the other day on my main Pp i tried to send money to kevinxux and it prompt me with a message saying they need to call me and talk to me so i hit backspace and went back then tried it again then it ask for my full bank account # this time so i gave it and it worked. Some reason i think they didnt recognize my computer and thats what prompt that on me.

wonder if its possable the stelth info u used matched some one else paypal who has added a ssn and they linked the 2 accounts.

Bluntz - Not an email. Within pp.

DBK - Could be someone with the similar first name at that address who has placed the SSN on the account in the past.

Could also be an issue with the VCC I used but I am not certain.

Just wanted to let others be aware and if anyone has had this before.

Really do not know what would trigger this odd message but it has to be one of the two items above as the account is extremely good, low withdraws, low risk items etc.

I am not 100% sure what caused this, but I can share some information from my 18 years of experience in the Credit & Collection industry...

For any given address in the USA, records of people at that address commonly go back to the late 1970's. Several entities collect this information. Trans-Union, Experian, Equifax, Lexis-Nexis, etc.

The number of different people associated with an address can vary widely - from just a few, to hundreds or even thousands.

For example, let's say that 123 Main St is a single family home, still owned by the couple who purchased it in 1970. They had 4 kids, the last of which left home in 1983 to attend college. This address would show a history for between 2-6 people. The number of people associated with that address would increase with each successive owner or renter. Let's also say that I was the last kid to leave for college in 1983. It might show my name, SSN and DOB along with a date range I was associated with the address, something like JEFFWEICO 123-45-6789 01/01/1960 1974-1983.

Now... Think of a 200 unit apartment building in New York City. Obviously, there would most likely be THOUSANDS of names associated with it.

The dates of association (in my example above 1974-1983) are NOT always accurate, they can be off by YEARS. It all depends on what the database owner does with the data. Each has ther own guidelines for determining what constitutes a valid and current association with that address for any given date. Credit bureaus will commonly use the first year they received an inquiry for that peson at that address to the last year they receivd an inquiry for that person at that address.

If the name is COMMON and matches a stealth name, the geniuses at PayPal might think they have come across a way to verify your identity. But this method would not be very accurate. Several companies in the collection industry studied such methods, but abandoned them as not being terribly useful, especially when automation is involved. There is just too much garbage data produced.

Just a thought...
