Nothing grey about it at all.

I have received several packages valued at around £50. DHL have always collected charges on this amount. I have yet to pay charges on anything delivered via EMS.

This is my experience of both companies. Yours may be different but doesn't make what I've said "grey".

Of course the charges levied against counterfeit phone cases maybe different. :D

The packages usually weigh 30-40 lbs. I got a box (EMS) on Saturday. It had even been re-taped by USPS because it had busted open a bit. Still came though... Wondering if a P.O. box would really make any difference. All I know is DHL seized three packages in less than two months, and I only get packages sent to my address once or twice a month. I figure my address or the supplier is on some sort of blacklist at DHL. I have received three letters from customs, although one was for a package that wasn't even mine! Had my address but a wrong name. My products came the following week... weird...

Hey happy,

According to your issue with DHL recently ,your address and name may have been blacklisted by the usa custom ,so you had better do not use the address and name within 6 months.

You may get a PO BOX for EMS using. And they even can deliver you on the weekend but DHL won't

Thanks for the info! Do you know what USPS PO box maximum size package is? I can't seem to find that information online. My packages wouldn't fit in any PO box! Usually around 2x3 and 30-40 lbs.

You can call the USPS to deliver the goods to you when you are nearby the PO BOX.

Or you can go to the post office to get it and they will hold the packages for you if the post office is not too far.

Do you know if DHL and EMS/USPS share the same 'Black List' when packages go through customs?

Customs is its own organization. Each courier does not have its own customs department. It's all under one massive US Government umbrella...

I was under the impression that DHL has a customs area on site and that DHL runs it (of course under US Customs guide lines). I have also heard that there are 'incentives' for the DHL in particular, which is one reason why there are so many more seizures there. Not sure if that is true of not!

If that's true, how come packages shipped via DHL and Fedex get seized far more often than EMS?

Because those packages tend to be bigger and heavier than EMS packages

I would have to disagree on that one. The majority of my packages are about the same size (give or take a couple of pounds) and I had three seizures at DHL in a two month period.

DHL also enjoys stealing content from boxes. Good times had for all.

I've had both EMS and DHL, I've never had a package seized by either but if I had to choose, I would go with DHL. I get my packages in 3-4 days.

The main factors are the different custom,if your goods go thr east of china, then you can use DHL,that region the seized rate is lower than west custom a lot .

Of cource, the proper packing and proper description on the bill also can affect the custom clearance.

All three of my packages that were seized at DHL came from Shenzhen. Since the last seizure they have sent two EMS and then the last two came DHL, but the company I purchase from changed the return address and the name of the company (also from Shenzhen) and it looks as though they used an agent. It says Foreign Trade Logistics no.156. We also changed my address by one number. Is there a blacklist at DHL and if so, would these changes we made be the reason they got through DHL, or did I just get lucky? Getting ready to place another order, but feel I should go with EMS just in case! I was told another reason packages get seized is because US Customs scans all the boxes and if they see something suspicious, they seize....
