So do most phones.
I.p is not such a missive issue anymore on its own you are not likley to be banned
Tied to something like an email it will | All my stealths are set up with different IPs by changing the MAC on my broadband router. Not once I've had a different IP per particular MAC... |

Tied to something like an email it will | Isn't it always tied to something though? Every time you communicate with EB they see either IP + Email(unless you use Gmail through your BROWSER as described previously) or IP + Username(when you log in)...When you reply directly through Gmail they see NO IP, only email hence no linkage is possible! |

The best thing you can do is to send an email from your Gmail application to another email you have. Then log in the other email, open the received message and check the header. You will most probably see the real IP where the mail was sent from.
Then open the internet browser on your device and log in gmail just like you do on your pc. Send another email and check the headers. Your IP will not be there.
P.S. Best way to read the header is from bottom to top. | I tested this sending an email from my iPhone Gmail Application to another email address and only showed the Google IP information.
You also stated that when using Thunderbird to reply reveals your IP information. There is plenty of conflicting information about Thunderbird, but as my number of stealth accounts increase, so does my need to remain efficient (and safe) on emails.
I suppose the only thing I can do is test it and put a couple of accounts at risk.:noidea: |
| JJGold | 02-19-2012 12:04 PM | A search reveals Thunderbird does add your personal IP address to outgoing emails. I did however find a fix, if anyone is interested:
Open Mozilla Thunderbird
Go to Preferences -> Advanced -> General
Click on Config Editor
Type in ”smtp” and find the number of the SMTP server you want to adjust (usually it will say smtp1)
Right click on the table and create a new string
Name it mail.smtpserver.smtp*.hello_argument, where * is the number of the SMTP server settings that you’re changing. Usually 1
Setup your ⊗⊗⊗⊗ IP to whatever value you want (e.g. 123.25.1.10)
Important: By changing your real private IP to a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ IP your email will be more likely be marked as spam by anti-spam filters.
After you perform these steps the headers of emails you sent will contain the IP you have setup. |

Chaps,
before you think 'oh no another stoopid question' and 'please read the stealth book dude' I suggest you read my question. Ok, let's say you've opened a gmail and disabled images. A buyer sends you a question, you have two options for reply.
The first one is to click on the respond button which takes you to EB and you have to log in. Obviously if you do this on 2 accts using the same ip you will be linked.
The second one is to reply through your email directly, which means that log in to EB is not required and the buyer will still receive the reply.
My question is, can EB track your ip if you use the second option? Do they see the ip where this reply is coming from OR do they see an email coming from some central gmail server?
You'll agree that it will be a lot easier to not have to constantly swap between user accts(if home) or restart Iphone constantly(to get a different ip) to reply to all buyers.
I know that when I start selling again, the questions will start bombarding my mailboxes and I aim to reply immediately(makes em happy) and with less hassle (buyers like it, don't they, especially the upset ones). Thanks in advance |
I've been wondering this too, especially when replying from my mobile phone. I have all of my accounts' email addresses attached to my Samsung, and I reply only when someone is ticked off. Moreover, most of my accounts use gmail. I have been replying through email, not ebay, for two years now and have never been linked. However, I have tried to reply with yahoo mail and I got a response back that the email could not be sent. So, I wasn't linked, but I cannot respond to customer messages via yahoo mail on my mobile. Hope this helps. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 03:24 AM. | |
