You can absolutely have name variations, I have 6 different variations of my name attached to my stealth accounts. This is for bank purposes I don't want to deposit money into my banks with a bunch of different names.
You have to make sure though that the addresses, DOBs, nearly everything else is different. 5 houses down isn't going to cut it I'm talking about a totally new address not related at all. I doubt it was the name variation that got you either, who knows what triggered it really...could have been the money.
Account is toast imo, make a new one unless you want to hire a photoshop guy to come up with all that info.
