The UK is a lot different to the US and Canada where debt is concerned | The US is pretty much the same, the debtor has a lot of power but make sure it's the right kind of debt. If the debt is either mortgage related or county taxes then get ready to lose your house. If it's credit card debt, the only thing you have to worry is your credit score. I'm sure the UK is the same thing about credit card.
Only thing to do is rake up tens of thousand in CC debt, wait 7 years and the debt is erased from your credit history. If debt collectors call you, you ask the same thing. Plz prove that the debt is yours or simply say that the person does not live here or nobody by that name lives here. My favorite thing to do when I was 18 is, "Sorry, my roommate moved out, this is the house phone". Under law they can't call you back or they can be sued.
