| Anthraxx | 04-11-2012 06:13 PM | Cracking Down That or browser fingerprinting. I've opened a few stealth accounts and each I make gets canned within a few hours. I've noticed that the accounts I made using real info, family members and no Im not actually using these accounts just wanted to test my theory. It seems the accounts I created using real up to date address that match the public database are sticking fine, and the accounts I make with stealth information are not working.
Just hoping for a little group discussion to help pinpoint the problem.
I'm using HMA (i know it's not recommended but it's always worked fine for me)
Im using VMware
Some of these accounts are toast before I even list an item for sale.
Do you think it would be possible that they are starting to suspend any accounts that use an address that doesn't match in public records? |
| NoneOther | 04-11-2012 06:21 PM | I seriously doubt it, people move around all the time so public records are never 100% up to date. |
| Anthraxx | 04-11-2012 06:23 PM | yeah I know but I just wonder if address not matching public records is enough for them to say we want to talk to you before we allow you to sell. |
| Anthraxx | 04-11-2012 06:25 PM | which is basically what the message keeps saying. |
| JJGold | 04-11-2012 06:30 PM | Did you read the stealth guide? |
| degsey69 | 04-11-2012 06:54 PM | Perhaps they are using matching names to addresses and cracking down.
I know from experience that if an account being created is non stealth it generaly gets 100 items and $5000 a month, the stealth ones generaly just the 10 items and $1000.
I think if there is any doubt now they just kick you off so it has to be good stealth.
I have also noticed that using gmail or hotmail or any of the free email services hinder the account, if you can get access to regular website emails it strengthens your account status, the same goes for credit cards if you use vanilla etc do not think that ebay are stupid, we have been educating them on here for years how to stop us.
So it depends on what credit card you are using, email you are using , does the name match the address, it will all be run through a filter and there are probaly a few more variable like the bank used as well and is the ip address one associated with a vpn provider.
I am not saying that it is impossible but you have to be smart in your choices to be ahead of the game and thats before you start listing. |
| GrannyT | 04-12-2012 02:07 AM | Good post Degsey - I have been saying exactly this for a long time.
We make this mistake of thinking our workarounds are the final answer when in reality they are a small step along the way.
We have all seen good methods crash and burn because some idiots cannot be educated.
I can see the time fast approaching where an account that has no limits will have an intrinsic value of many hundreds or thousands of dollars purely because it will be virtually impossible to open and run a stealth account with no limits without investing a huge amount of money.
People I work with away from this place are already telling me exactly that.
Stealthers are a minority on Ebay and as such Ebay does not need to implement too much to control us. The information that we share here and that becomes public knowledge will one day, by necessity, become too valuable to share and will belong to a small and select group - possibly the account sellers.

100% all true. |
| NoneOther | 04-12-2012 11:30 AM | Hate to throw a spanner in the works but one of my recently opened accounts had no selling limits straight off the bat.
Name would not match address on public records
Using Gmail
e/p VCC
New user account, all cookies kept intact.
Other positives were that the IP is static and on landline broadband, also did some buying before selling, only from sellers who sent tracked mail, so the recipient and address are sort of 'confirmed'. Personally I think this makes a big difference.
Some might say it's just the luck of the draw but I never had an issue with getting limits raised either and I reckon you can stack some of the odds in your favour sometimes. |
| TheSkyInYourEye | 04-13-2012 12:51 AM | I've had the same experience as the above. |
| degsey69 | 04-13-2012 07:04 AM | Well I am not saying that ebay is a calculated situation and there are variations that are the exceptions and not the rule. |

I second that! |
Honestly, I think it's HMA that gave you away. PayPal can easily find the subnet HMA uses and blacklist it. I'm sure you're not the only one that uses HMA as well, so it's always best to find a low-profile VPN provider.
Also, HMA isn't optimal if you care about your privacy: http://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-pr...iously-111007/ |
| UnderBites08 | 04-13-2012 08:12 PM | Its HMA 100% i have over 15 accounts. 10-30 ives lost and all the ones I made with HMA are down. period case closed. Its HMA period |
| degsey69 | 04-14-2012 06:08 AM | HMA only have a limited number of ip addresses that they use thats why you dont use them they are all probably flagged, it is reasonable to expect people who get banned for vero may have the same range of ip addresses if using vpn, its only a simple search to find that out. |
| levi6482 | 04-17-2012 07:14 AM | I dont understand how you can buy items on a stealth address & still receive it?? |

| levi6482 | 04-17-2012 07:18 AM | Yes but surely if you have multiple accounts you wont have access to all addresses?? |
| Thankful | 04-17-2012 07:25 AM | Yeah perhaps so, when I buy stuff i use an account which still has my home address which was banned years ago - only difference now is that it has a slight change on the address on the post code area for e.g i had "l" in mine i changed it "i" but in capital letters so it now looks like it's "l" on e/b when in fact it's just a capital i - thats prob the most easiest and cheapest method to go for if you want items to arrive at home, eBay has no idea aswell ha! |
| levi6482 | 04-17-2012 07:30 AM | Yes I hear wot u r saying, but reading postd today alot of stealth acc are gettin burnt straight off, so would need buying activity also. Any idea how would go about this?? | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 12:16 PM. | |
