21 day hold outside of eBay
Just thought I'd share some info.
Lots of you guys have mentioned that you have received the poxy 21-day hold when selling goods outside of eBay.
I sell around 10-20 items a week outside of eBay (using several PayPals) and I have NEVER had a 21-day hold.
Yesterday, I sold something and the guy paid an invoice I sent for £300. Bam 21-day hold. I hate the policy so I refunded him explaining the situation. He then paid my back-up account instead. Bam 21-day hold. Yet again I refunded him and he was as confused as me.
He then paid my business account that I use on eBay. Guess what?! Bam, 21-day hold!!!!!!
It must be to do with him rather than me because these accounts are not linked and the invoices were all different, different computer/user accounts etc etc.
I assumed it was the seller that created a need for the 21-day hold but it appears not. The items are not vero and on the last invoice I didn't even write anything in the description. |

On accounts where I have a 21 day hold, sometimes I can receive payments from people and it comes through with no hold, maybe 1 in 5 and this is through ebay |

So your off ebay transactions got the full 21 day hold or were just held pending response to paypal.
Rather important to get that answered. |
Maybe spilt it up into smaller transactions below $250 works for me! PayPal works like that $300 = hold...... 2 x $150 no hold but still = $300 |

Just have him send it as service, I do that all the time and never once had a hold from anyone and I've had people send me payments over a thousand many times to. |

| Do they have buyer protection if they send as service? Some might not send as service, if they don't. |

Is it wise tyo have that buyer resend payments to all your paypal and then you give auto refunds. Wouldnt that be suspect to pp?
Why not just ship and provide tracking in which case you will receive yo6r money within a week |

Bad news. I've only had temporary holds (less than 2 days) for off ebay transactions.
I do a full variety of payments on accounts in any case. :pout: |

What's the big deal. If your running your business correctly the 21 day hold should mean nothing if make sure you keep enough capital in the business. |

For some reason I am seeing pp reverse a few off ebay transactions in the last week.
Dont get the holds but now seeing the reversing. |

Ship it then update tracking number. PP will release within 1-2 days after delivered. |

Just got this today on one of my accounts. Note that other Paypals are still fine. Here is the clarification regarding the 21 day hold OFF ebay: Quote:
We're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.
Starting 5/26/2012, money from payments you receive will be placed in a pending balance for up to 21 days. By doing this, we're making sure that there's enough money in your account to cover potential refunds or claims.
Even though you can't access the money right away, please ship orders quickly and communicate with your customers. After 21 days, you can withdraw money from each payment as long as the customer hasn't filed a dispute, chargeback, claim, return, or reversal.
The money may be available sooner if:
We can confirm that the item was delivered and 3 days elapse. This gives the buyer enough time to review the order and file a dispute if necessary.
Your buyer leaves positive feedback. (Applies only to eBay items)

| In other words, my account was randomly flagged for review by the system (this was not done by a person because I got this message 1 second after getting a payment) and it triggered 21 day holds on the Paypal account forever.
This does not apply to all Paypal accounts. The Paypal account was created months before May 26 and has been fully verified for a long time. This is on a per-account basis, and is done by the system automatically. |

Just a obvious and maybe a stupid question but if you recieved and refunded funds on a
number of accounts would this not be a potential link between your PP accounts. |
