its been paid through paypal now he says hes not posting and its 300 miles to collect

ebay cannot force buyer to send it.

Just a question of requesting refund or doing a dispute if seller will not budge, ebay will side with buyer...

I thought once you've entered a legally binded contract with eBay you cannot go back, I might be wrong but once its sold its sold. Postage is optional I suppose if it says with pick ups as well, the seller could chose for collection instead of sending it. Take it up with eBay if you need any assistance.

Legally binding contract, now there's a term that has no meaning on e/b

The only thing that's binding on e/b and p/p is that the seller will get stuffed 99.99% of the time in any auction dispute, legal or not. Buyers can and do what they like with e/b's blessing and support.

By the same token a seller cannot be forced to complete the sale any more than a buyer can. Who's going to enforce the legalities of the said contract? No one.

Another example of thick people thinking they are clever.

OBVIOUSLY a mistake by the person who listed the item...they made it clear it was collection in person.

eBay do make it slightly difficult to select the collection no postage option. Someone not that experienced with eBay may not find it. I see many options with the postage listed as free, but described as collection only in the listing.

Your friend shouldn't have bid if he cannot collect. I'd suggest he kindly request a refund, minus the listing fees the seller has incurred.

Screwed,

You should get onto your friend and beg him to cancel the sale.

Explain to him he's actually making harm for the seller.

Explain it however you like. Introduce me to him. He'll learn

That was a joke.

Just do your best to avert harming a seller.
