What Happens If I Don't Pay Fedex Customs Taxes?

(deleted rant)

I digress... What will happen if I don't pay them? They have a stealth name and my address.
As far as I know, that's about it. I'm just renting here so I don't see how they can figure out how to attach this to my credit.
I can only think that they can refuse to let packages get through to this address from over seas.
In which case I'll just use my PO box. Everyone concur?

If I knew what you were talking about I would concur - but I haven't the faintest idea - sorry

If you don't pay those "fees" then you just don't get your merchandise. A few things might happen:

1. Fedex sends your items to the nearest US Customs warehouse to be auctioned off...where I will buy it for $100 and resell your items! :thumb:
2. Fedex ships the boxes back to your supplier.

If you aren't happy with your current shipping arrangements then I suggest you ask your supplier to ship a different method.

Look you are not in some bar drinking with your fellow jocks.

Do not post like like again. Completely useless. Business is tough.

YOU made the sale with your supplier.

YOU should have had the sense to work out the best and least expensive method to get your goods. You should also have read the T&S of your contract of importing goods...

note: As per the contract of carriage with FedEx®, the shipper is ultimately liable for any duties and taxes assessed on the shipment. If the recipient refuses the package or the recipient or third party FedEx account holder refuses to pay for duties and taxes, the original shipper will be billed for duties and taxes.

Thank you for the input. And I apologize for the rant. Suffice it to say that anyone can just google fedex's ..tactics for banking more customs duty fees than other carriers.

I've got a running tab with fedex of maybe $200. Since I'm moving soon, I don't see the point to paying it. And from what you've said, it shouldn't be an issue.

are you talking about the type of invoice you get AFTER receiving goods....

GrannyT 07-19-2012 05:20 PM

Ah, yes.. thank you for saying this. Now I realize why what I originally said may have seemed a little idiotic. These are fees that they mailed to me a bit after I already received the merchandise.. so yes I already have my goods. If these were fees that I had to pay just to receive my stuff, I wouldn't have started the thread.. I would have just paid and yeah tough luck, no biggy. But now that I have this "tab" with them well after the fact, I just don't see the point in paying. I was only trying to clarify whether this would be an issue, or what the repercussions might be. I'm not here to complain about the costs of doing business, just needed some insight on this specific situation. Thank you.

Pay it - it's a not an unexpected business expense - keeps you clean and earning

:ranger:

GreenBean 07-19-2012 06:34 PM

If you want to stop doing business with that supplier, do ignore the bill.

After all the supplier will not mind subsidising your business.

In case you missed the info, FEDEX will bill YOUR SUPPLIER.

Your $200 tab will go to your supplier who enabled you to sell goods.

I realize you will likely see that as OK because after all FEDEX are horrible:mad2:

From my experience the person with the Fedex account is the one who ends up being liable.

I once ordered some custom signage from China, and later received a fedex bill for it. I thought the taxes were outrageous in proportion to what the signage cost, so I ignored it. The shipper didn't have a fedex account and had paid cash for the shipment. About six months later, I received a collection letter from Fedex, which I ignored. This was a few years ago, and nothing ever came of it.

But this was a unique instance in that my Fedex account wasn't linked to the shipment. Since I get a ton of discounts (and my shipping rep takes me to football games every now and then) I wouldn't mess with it.
