Default Do you get request for tax id after 50 sales?

it is a 100% thing or it is random?

I am not going to come even close to hitting the reporting threshold. Why does Amazon require my tax identity?

It is Amazon's policy for the following sellers to provide taxpayer identification information to Amazon:

All Professional sellers
Individual sellers that exceed 50 transactions in a calendar year, regardless of sales volume

It's been random for me on 4 different stealth accounts.

Funny thing I notice is that on two of them they would ask for it, and I wouldn't give it. Then a few weeks later they would send an email saying they suspended my account for not giving. However, in both cases the accounts are still active and selling weeks after this email. Perhaps I can get away with it till December. I seem to remember that's when they used to close accounts for not submitting it.

If you go Pro right off the bat yes. Always go buyer, regular seller and the. pro. It's worked for me

My guess is they are basing it on sales so far. Knowing that holiday is coming up and if you are already at a certain point more than likely if you continue selling you will meet the threshold.

amazon may perceive you are going to make the thresh-holds. They are within their rights to ask for tax ID. They are obliged to meet IRS demands.

paypal have treated sellers in a similar manner. I've added threads ( paypal based) to give you an idea behind this.

below thread defines what to expect more from amazon

Tax Office dealines means amazon will change how they deal with sellers.

If there are issues, then it is imperative to take professional tax advicc. Forum does not do this.
