Can you apply for a BlueBird Card without faxing/mailing SSN and Photo ID?

Anyone here has trouble with applying for a Bluebird card? when I tried to apply it online using my real info, DOB, SSN, they still asked me to fax or mail a copy of Social Security Card and Photo ID.

What the heck is wrong with it? it's just a prepaid, nothing more. How come is acts like you're applying for a real checking account.

AMEX will do that as a strong preventative measure against fraud.

Have you some address/name variations etc?

Yes you can open a Bluebird account without faxing in information, however it is hit or miss.

The Bluebird AMEX will do this for some accounts especially if you have another account with AMEX. They actually had me fax in my info as well when opening a second account with them. They just want to verify my information.

Also the card isn't just a prepaid. It is a checking account as well. You can even order checks with bluebird through the website and have ACH Debits/Deposits come Out/In of the account. It is not like a standard prepaid card.

@ MM78 - How long ago did you apply for it? maybe they have changed now. my friends had no problem when they applied last year. I've regretted that I didn't apply at that time -it seems to be much easier if you do last year.

@ GreenBeen - FRAUD????....please read my 1st post again. I used all my REAL info and identity.....EXACT FIRST & LAST NAME, ADDRESS, DOB, SSN - I used my ISP email which is Comcast and its IP- nothing looks suspicious.

@ Claise - I have never had any AMEX account in my life. This is the 1st time I apply for it. -PREPAID is PREPAID, but I agree this one has better features.

OK, here's what happens.

A would-be customer might supply the name they are known by, say Joey Brown & an SSN for Joseph Brown. That may be on the level. But the system flags the application. Or sometimes a mis-spelling of a name, transposed number for DOB/address/SSN happens.
Any of the above result in requests for further ID. Or the system automatically flag evey couple of hundred applications for ID to be supplied.

All processors do this for fraud protection safety.

No that is not the case. Everything is EXACTLY AS it . I think BlueBird by AMEX doesn't want to issue account to any new customer without having you faxed your info like before.

I really don't understand or think of anything that caused my application got flagged.

Never impressed when procedures change.

I do not think I have read a single post that someone mentioned they were required to do this with Bluebird.

Yeah, I guess I'm at a loss as to where the OP is having trouble with this. I just bought my 2nd one a few days ago. Walked into walmart, put 20 bucks on it, the end. Yes, just a prepaid card.

Since this is a PREPAID CARD, NOTHING related to FICO. I'm sure I will have no problem even if it's related to FICO scores because I have good credits. Many banks have sent me better offers and invited me to participate higher credit card level. If i had bad credit or low FICO scores, They wouldn't offer me the GOLD credit card level.

It is ALSO a checking account.

The fact you are not been given an explanation by the company means they perceive something not nice for you.

You raised the topic. We are trying to work why.

It may well be simply Amex is little better than paypal. You may never know.

Amex has long been known for verification of secondary applications when the account holder already exists in the system. It's standard practice to avoid other users trying to capitalize on ID theft.
