Default VMWare does not appear full screen

Please, experts of the forum, help me.

I installed VMWare Player and installed Windows XP for the OS of my first Virtual Machine.
The Windows XP screen does not appear full screen as shown on my attached jpg file.

Can someone tell me what to do to make the OS appear full size.

Thanks.

Did you click on the "full screen" icon?

Yes. I did, but the Windows XP window still only appears in the middle of the screen with black areas around it just like shown in the attached picture. Clicking on the "full screen" icon only makes the top band go away, it does NOT make the OS screen appear full size.

thanks for helping. my laptop runs on Windows 7. but I want to load Windows XP on VMware so that the virtual machine runs lighter, faster etc.. and it takes less disk space, memory space, less CPU resources etc.. (I hope I am right).

Either increase your guest OS's screen resolution manually, or install VMWare Tools for the guest os.

thanks for your help, but now I have a different problem.
I tried to open the previously installed VM. and I got this message shown in the 1st attached picture.
After taking "ownership", I got an error message as shown in the 2nd attached picture.

What happened? I am stuck. Please help. thanks.

Kill it and create a new machine.

Could be possible that the disk or ios image you used for Xp had a virus.

Could be a number of things, I would download VMWare again (different source) and get a new version of XP
