Default Need new telephone solution

Well... times they are a changing.

Google Voice has run out of numbers. I spent about 30 minutes trying random 3digit combinations and came up with zilch.

A quick Google search reveals that many other people have had the same issue.

What telephony solution are you guys using these days? Is there anything that rivals Google Voice? I looked into textplus but wasn't really sold on their service.

If you don't want to post it here, PMs are appreciated.

I think there are no more google voice numbers available. Just tried. Tried to type any number in the word or phrase section and got absolutely nothing. Not a word, 4 digit number, area code, city, nothing. I didn't type every sing combination of course. But everything I typed got nothing. I guess there are no more gv numbers.

On another thread, someone yesterday mentioned same thing...perhaps just a glitch? Retry in 24 hours?

Default What to do is google voice has no numbers in my area?

No, but it was diminishing the more time passes by. At first there was a lot in my area. Them that was gone. Then my next area code was gone, then the next, and then the next. I have about 5 area codes in my area, all of them gone in a matter of 3 months. I tried to type any 3 digit number and nothing. I wish there was an option in google voice that lets you ask for ANY number available but there was no option like this. Had to type at least a 3 digit number or phrase. Did all combinations until I got sleepy and still absolutely nothing.

I always wonder if google is reading my MAC address and realize that I got too many gv numbers.

If you google this, you'll see that people have been reporting similar things on various forums since Dec 13th.

Default Google voice third party apps not working

I read somewhere that google was cracking down on third party apps. I have used talkatone on my iphone for quite some time to call in whenever there was a problem, but right now it does not seem to work. Whenever I tried to make a call, it would just hang up after the first ring. I even tried to use vtok, an app I have never used before but had good reviews. Same thing, tried to make a call and the first ring would hang up.

I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 btw. Is it an iOS problem? Google cracking down? Anyone having success using gv third party apps? Thanks.

Update: well, I just downloaded talkatone for android on my old htc evo 3d and the same thing happened. One ring, then call terminated. I guess it really is google cracking down on third party apps.

Nah I doubt it.

Okay, I got some new information on why google voice is purposely dropping my calls. Google has to have detected that my 50+ gv numbers is actually from the same person. I know because I logged into my original GV account from years ago, and it works just fine, but all the new ones hang me up after one ring. It must be the mac address.

I got a clue on this by emailing talkatone reps. They said there was no problems, but I kept telling them my symptoms, then they asked me if I REALLY had credentials to this google account. That got me thinking that google had to have known that it was the same person. I mean, it's not that hard. They could match ips, or they could just read my MAC address, who knows. But IP is def a dead giveaway.

It's similar to how when I search for google voice numbers and change my ip in the middle of it, then google keeps telling me errors rather than letting me find phone numbers.

This is the same thing. I try using it, and it won't let me call. I even tried using GV on the web, and still no use. It does however, let me send and receive texts. LOL.

Ok, so there you have it. Next time you want to get a google voice number, go stealth. Change IP, change MAC. I'm not sure if Google can detect who you are through talkatone and other third party apps. What do you guys think? Can google detect ip and mac addresses through a third party app?
