Default Letter from PayPal demanding payment

For the past 2 weeks, I didn't have access to the e-mail I use for this eBay & PayPal account. It's a legitimate account which I rarely sell on anymore so I don't manually log in very often. Last time I logged into the eBay was 3 weeks ago and 5 weeks ago for the PayPal.

So today I get a letter in the mail from a credit bureau demanding a payment that is "seriously overdue". My reaction was "WTF?". So I log into this PayPal account and my balance is negative -$28. I'm checking my transactions to see what caused this and it's from eBay fees. I have an auto-payment set up for fees on this account (I know, I think most of you prefer doing it manually from what I remember reading) so they tried to take money from 2 different bank accounts but both failed. This initially happened on March 17. And now just 9 days later I get a letter in the mail from a credit bureau which really shocked me how it escalated so quickly.

The letter, from NCO Financial Services, asks me to send it back alongside the $28 I owe. Could I just transfer money (from different bank account) to the PayPal instead of dealing with this company? Would PayPal then inform the bureau it's been solved and I paid?

Why not just buy a VCC and send that to paypal?

Reduce any trail & leave a bank account 'safe'.

paypal can accept these payments & should advise the company.

That compnay contracts with companies like paypal to recover debts.

Thanks, you're right, I'm going to buy a VCC now

I just wasn't sure if at this point it was mandatory I pay through the debt collector.

I have used paypal themselves to sort out a debt collection letter.

It was resolved without issues.

Of course, keep all your receipts etc.

Good Luck

So this is kind of weird.

The letter I got in the mail said the amount owed was $25.19 (my bad, I said $28 in my original post). And the negative amount in my PayPal was the same.

Yet, when I went to My eBay > Seller Account > and clicked to pay fees, it was just $1.50 something that said I owed. So I went and paid just the $1.50 and then boom, my PayPal account balance goes all the way back to $0.00.

I'm so confused now. What just happened to the rest of the negative balance money? And what happens with the $25 the collector wants me to pay?

edit: Here's a screenshot of the transaction details page...(sorry I don't know why the image gets so big)

What do you mean?

My other Visa was actually expired and no longer worked. The only working source of payment was my Visa Gift Card

Well apparently the payment went through the Visa somehow. You should check it with your bank.

Happened because the card was still on file.

paypal pulled the funds. Expect a reversal within a day or so.

Or that VCC might just cancel everything out.

You could even have a credit.

Ok just checked the Visa gift-card online statement. (I would have done so the other day but I misplaced the card)

Looks like they made two charges. One for ~$29 and another for ~$1

Makes enough sense to me now. Problem solved

Or was that from the gift card he used?

Bit ambiguous
