Activity: 0% Longevity: 54% | | Paypal has WRONG information from public records?
I attempted to create an account with Paypal using my girlfriend's name, it eventually asked for a call to verify identity, so I had her call and speak to the representative. The rep asked her some questions from public records like who she has previously lived with, what zip codes, street names, etc.
The problem is that when the street names question came up, the options were street X, Y, Z, or none of the above. The answer was none of the above, she had never lived on any of the streets that Paypal read, but Paypal said that it was an incorrect answer.
I myself ran into the same problem before when registering for the UPS "My Choice" service, which allows you to reroute packages in transit, they had incorrect public records information on me and would not allow me to register.
Does anyone know where they get this info from and how one can go about seeing it or even correcting it? It's pretty frustrating to be unable to use your own REAL name and information just because the public records info is shoddy.

Also the other questions, did they also come out to none of the above? Or were there direct answers, because one question wrong wouldn't fail you, they usually allow one and will add extra

Wasting time using real info and trying to sort it out with PP. Learn stealth and avoid using real info - even your current girlfriend's.

Should be an interesting situation if/when your current girlfriend is no longer your current girlfriend. What happens to your business at that point?
Go stealth like rsot said - better safe than sorry.

I am not sure how PayPal does it, but on the UPS application I mentioned there was only one question I failed and it refused to process. I'd expect PayPal to use more stringent standards than UPS, but perhaps they don't.
What has your experience with PayPal been regarding the public records questions, could you give me a brief rundown please?

UPS and paypal have different standards.
Did you hear the conversation or get the info 2nd hand?

I could write NOVELS about how bad information gets into credit bureau files, public record databases, etc.
But at the end of the day, what matters is what you can do about it.
Nothing.
Sorry, but that is the truth. There is no law that states information in public records must be accurate. Often times, it is not. Clerks mistype names, addresses and everything else. That information is packaged and sold to MANY other businesses and winds up in many other databases. Sometimes, it even ends up with the credit bureaus.
As far as credit reports go, you DO have the right to challenge inaccurate CREDIT DATA entries on your report, but GOOD LUCK challenging anything else! Even if you DID have the right to change it, it would be like playing whack-a-mole. You would have it removed from ONE database, but it would pop up in 10 others.

Sometimes it is not bad information but really obscure information. You could have signed up for a new cellphone plan and received a new number, only to ask for it to be changed right away because you did not like the original number. Then 10 years later that phone number you had for 5 mins ends up the answer to a public database question.

Exact same thing happened to me. I could write NOVELS about how bad information gets into credit bureau files, public record databases, etc.

Yep, sad but true. I suspect that a lot of times along the line, these database companies attempt to "correct" or "update" their info based on guesses, and the info gets screwed up.

You seem to have a little background in this, what might be a good place to start looking to find the public record information that is available on myself? I'd be willing to pay for it as long as it's not outlandish, are there any sites or services you would recommend?
Most sites I find seem focused on criminal background checks for hiring, this is obviously not what I'm looking for though.
