Default Netgear router problem

I didn't really know what subforum to use, so I thought I'd ask the subscribers. Here goes.

I've got an NETGEAR WGR614v9 router, because my ISP is VM and I need to change mac addresses to get new IP addresses.
Everything has been working well for past 3-4 months and I've not had any issues with the whole setup.

Last night I was doing my normal stealthin business, switching MAC address and to obtain a new IP address when suddenly I was not able to connect to internet via Netgear router anymore.

I canged my MAC address, switched OFF my VM Hub and after some time switched ON my VM Hub again. I waited some time, as I normally do, and then went to IPBurger to check my new IP but my laptop was not able to connect to website- I thought perhaps I have the signal from the Router but haven't got connection yet, but then after 10 minutes I was still not able to get access to internet.
I then tried to log back to Netgear to see if change of MAC address would solve my problem, but now I'm unable to even log into 192.168.1.1
I have tried different browsers- I normally use Mozilla and with Mozilla I can't even load up the Netgear settings, with Chrome I can get to the settings but I'm unable to change MAC address, as the numbers don't load up.

My normal internet connection works without problems, it's just when I switch my VM to Modem mode, I start to have problems.
(I tried resetting Netgear, that didn't help either)

Any help is appreciated.

Could it be a case of just a dead Netgear router and should I be looking for a new one?

Thanks.

had this happen to me once. Try Rebooting your router to factory setting.

You mean the hardreset button around the back, next to power cable?

But I just rebooted to factory. and It went to the original Mac Address.

I think you may have a different issue if you cant even connect to the router??

I mean I can't connect to router using Mozilla, but I can get connected using Chrome. I don't have any issues with Mozilla when I'm on my normal VM Hub Internet.
Also the weird thing about it was that it started as I was switching it between two different accounts and I did nothing different, the whole process is always exactly the same. It's not as if I didn't use it for some time and then suddenly had a problem. It was literally working fine and then suddenly not working fine.

I'll see what you guys can come with and I'll search the net a bit, but in case I can't resolve it- I have already bough 3 new routers and they will be delivered on Tuesday. Then I have backup ones as well, in case something like this happens again.

Just a bit of a **** timing, I wanted to list some items, across all accounts, starting tomorrow. Oh well.

As already said, this problem can be fixed IME by resetting router to factory default.

You can do this by pressing the button you mentioned with a paper-clip, or you can also reset it within the router console if you can still access it. It sounds like the host configuration for the DHCP is messed up, and a default wipe will fix it right up.

Good luck!

Right,

New routers arrived today and now I have few backup ones in case something serious DOES happen.

I managed to solve my problem with the backup erase(Just a form of reset, I guess) and I also managed to find what the actual cause was so I can avoid it in the future.

It seems that if I load up the Netgear settings to change the MAC, if the boxes load up, but numbers don't and I just copy new MAC address into it, as it would normally appear, it will have problems.
I just need to load up both the boxes for the number AND number themselves for some odd reason.
Otherwise even though it does the whole loading bit, after a reboot I will have connection issues.

Few trial and errors, but easily fixable and I'm back to steady stealthin
