No reliable UK couriers outside of Royal Mail!

Time for an up to date posting about courier companies in the UK. I have a parcel to send out about 1.2k in weight, going by weights given on other listings on ebay, it is about 45cmx10cmx10cm.

Just been looking for price comparisons and although myhermes was cheaper than Royal Mail, after checking in previous comments in search box on here, Hermes just not reliable enough, very slow and although they offer tracking they just don't update it quickly enough.

Found a voucher codes listing online that mentioned quite a raft of couriers, but they were mainly one's I hadn't heard of before, and first on the list was my Hermes which didn't instill confidence. Then found another site that came up with prices of anything up to £40, so that was never going anywhere. So quite simply Royal Mail it is, price is good enough, reliability can't be beaten, and I don't yet send enough packages regularly enough to really get into any other courier services.

Yes just checked their site James and I would actually have to put my parcel in the up to 10kg bracket because of its 45cm size and the cheapest price they could offer me for this one off slightly larger parcel was more expensive than Royal Mail, so for this one RM can't be beat, but I can see they could come in useful in the future.

There is nothing wrong with myhermes Rosie. Tracking is updated all the way, and most deliveries are made within 3 days.

Most complaints about them are to do with fragile items. They are a 'rough' courier.

I have had roughly 10 items out of 1000 have issues with hermes.Each time they have paid out for the sold price with a minimal of fuss.

With royal fail, i have more INR claims and they never pay up conpensation even with all the evidence they make you provide.

You will always get people unhappy with a service.

I say you should just use who suits your needs.

For me thats royal mail and hermes.

Second that I've used parcel2go countless times never had a problem. They're like a go compare you put in your post code weight and size and you get the options, but buy through them. Then all your tracking is together, regardless of myhermes, ups, yodel, etc.

If you do make a claim though they expect you to have photos of inside the package showing it safely wrapped up. I never bother unless its expensive item.

I've sent everything from books to a stack of 4 VW wheels! They're good for bulk shipping too.

They offer next day collection but also more useful and cheaper access point drop off services at your local onestop or other cornershops if your not wanting to wait in.

Its always amused me how at the top of the list you'll get something like £5 for myhermes and then at the bottom parcel force is proudly offering the same service for £60!

Follow up to this, went to the Post Office and cheapest they could offer was £12 something!, and that was despite what their website said the price would be, so back home I came, onto to the parcel2go.com site, and for just over £5 I get tracked and signed for as well and it will be collected from our local corner shop tomorrow, and it is myhermes who wil be collecting it, so fingers crossed it doesn't get lost or anything, so nice one everyone for the suggestions.

My hermes have improved a lot in many area's so you should be fine, but its yodel i worry about lol..

Oh yes, doesn't everyone, can't believe that company is still in business!, every Christmas they get in a worse state than anyone else it seems with their deliveries, like that time of year comes out of the blue with no warning lol. hehe anyone guess I found the smilie list!

I use Parcel2go for all my internationals and myparceldelivery.com for all the UK ones. Usually I get the cheapest one, Yodel or some other company that gives some good deals.

Yes I suspect you are probably going to be right about that oompaloompa, there is always a possibility that a problem will happen with any delivery company, this a good test actually as I heavier item going to need sending out beginning of next week, and with it being a big heavier a courier is going to be essential I think going by the price RM wanted to charge me for this relatively lightweight item.

For an expensive parcel, I wouldn't use Yodel or MyHermes.

I would try go with Parcel Monkey, they find the cheapest rate etc for larger parcels.
