Default Listing goes up and down best match

Why is it that everytime i revise my listing, even by changing one letter on my title, it shoots up on best match only for it drop back down again after an hour?
Does this happen to anyone else?

It's annoying because it always gets my hopes up thinking i've "cracked the code" but I haven't...

Best match search results are different for everyone, and they're taking a lot more factors rather just title.

There are a lot of factors to take into account and I dont think anyone will share what it takes to be at the top.

Having said that, our items usually appear in top 3 after searching just 2 keywords of the title. I say top 3 as even after a simple page refresh, the listing moves up/down. Clearly there is an element of randomness in the algorithm eBay use to ensure no one seller hogs the top position.

It also makes a difference whther you are logged into ebay or not when you do the search. Log in and search your own items, they always appear higher in search if you view from your own account as opposed to searching when not logged in using a different browser.

Makes you wonder whether ebay are trying to fool sellers into thinking they are ranked higher in search results than they really are Lol.

I've never experienced this. I usually check our listing rank when i'm out and on my phone (web browser, not logged in) for example, and was still always top 3.

But certainly an interesting point.
