Seems the last time this question was asked was in 2013, so ill ask again for update.
Got a item not recieved the case, its just to the uk where most my letters go and a normal letter, but buyer has 100+ good feedback and no negative so i guess it could be genuine.
Is there anything we can do as sellers to protect ourselves?
This site https://tamebay.com/2016/08/how-to-d...s-on-ebay.html reccommends just linking any old tracking info to them which shows its been delivered, which of course is a bit dodgy, but would it work though?

It will not work, Ebay will want to see the buyers signature confirming acceptance of the package.
However, I do not understand. If you feel that the buyers claim that the Item was not received to be genuine then why not just resend it?,,,,If its an expensive item then use this as a learning experience, and buy insurance on items in the future. You must understand that this is part of doing business online and accept it. You might want to insure and/or require signatures to minimize the damage.

I dont know if its genuine or not, i was kind of hoping that someone here might know if alot of good feedback will mean its probably genuine?

cannot remember the threshold for needing signature proof, but if it is under that threshold eg. if it is a low cost £18 item, then all you need is tracking to win, but it has to be delivered from the local depot of the customer, any old tracking will not be accepted.
Is customer genuine? You cannot tell, but the vast majority of people are honest. Postal losses are very rare but things are often taken from doorsteps or communal areas.....
It is a cost of doing business, and it should not be enough to be worrying or damage profits in my experience...

Yes this artical is right since royal mail doing 2d barcodes now which scan and track even normal latter or parcel also track and eBay PayPal does not require signature I believe it's for over £150 They require signature
As long as royalmail site claim item delivered that's all if buyer really push eBay then they normally ask proof of postage from you end of story

| Buyers (for a while now) cannot be issued negative ratings by sellers. So it's a tad more difficult to ascertain if they are genuine or not just by looking at feedback rating.
At this moment in time you have no option but to give the buyer a full refund.
Going forward, take on board all the points mentioned by others above.

Uploading the same tracking number is an old trick for digital items or items sent standard delivery that could be used to speed up PayPal holds but it no longer works, eBay will no longer let you submit the same tracking number twice.

Maybe the print at home drop and go label ones have the code too, I only noticed the code on the post office receipt as it was so bloody long......but the good part is it is like having a trackable item, without the extra costs.
Only thing is for this new 'tracking' number on standard post, there is way more leaving in a 'safe place' than with proper trackable. Actual proper tracking number ones go back to the depot and 'while you were out' card left, these standard barcode ones are left in safe place alot, not sure how that will pan out regarding claims....

I've sent a couple of large letters via Royal Mail through eBay this week and not had a tracking number on the receipt
