Works great. I have a system of tracking IP numbers.
But one big pain is the amount of data used.
- Logging into ebay
- Checking messages
- Checking items waiting for despatch
- Checking on active listings.
I would estimate that takes 1MB of data. Maybe 5MB at most.
WTF: it takes upto 300MB. What am I missing? How can it take soooo much?
How can using ebay suck so much data?
Do others have the same issue?
Thanks.
That's way too much data - 300Mb!! 😲
Im using 750mb/a month data sim for one of my accounts and usually enough to do a basic ebay/paypal tasks incl. listing pictures uploads, answering emails etc.
Re: Mobile tethering: 300MB just for logging into ebay
plus net on one - so EE
giffgaff on other - so O2
plus net is worst. it just suck sooo much data
giffgaff is better - maybe 50% better - but STILL sucks a huge amount of data
i thought i was going mad
i used to use gmail as well - and thought that was to blame
but it's not - it's JUST ebay
Avoid Windows 10 + Tethering. Turning off auto updates is a daunting task, hit and miss to say the least, and more importantly, it will eat up your data...
Consider using other OS, versions of Windows, where auto updates can be turned off.
A single data sim with around 6GB of data should last an average user in excess of 6 months, depending on number of accounts, how many images you're uploading etc., but 1 week doesn't sound right at all.

no way!
the only thing is... if using Linux say...
does ebay know? does it matter?
the thing is... only a few people use Linux - so easier for them to connect the dots?

It doesn't matter - eb won't connect you on that - quite a few ppl around here have used Linux in the past and have told me about it (I don't use Linux though).

Perhaps... but if one account is linux, another windows 7, another windows xp,, then you'll be fine.
Just vary it up, avoid windows 10.
P.s. Yes way! , you can get 6 months + out of a single data sim... you are technically just browsing if you think about it. Not very data intensive. Not like you're streaming movies/ youtube etc.

Need to look into that more.
The thing is, I want to use one machine to access every single account.
So I ant easily switch between Windows 10, 7, Linux etc
Wouldn't it be great if we had a 3rd party program run that controlled what information the browser gives out? I'm hoping to look into this.
Look into VMware / Virtual Machines.
You can run all the OS from your one computer. If you decide to fork out a bit more each month and use a VPN for each account, you can ditch tethering and use all accounts simultaneously (if setup properly).
Re: Mobile tethering: 300MB just for logging into ebay
That's crazy high. Disable your pictures from downloading. That burns most of the data. Speeds things up too.
You don't need to log in to check messages. Forward all your emails to one account, answer via the email attached to the account if needed.
You don't need to log in to check for sold items. Check for sales via email sold notifications. You can print your labels through a third party and log in once every three or fours days to update your EB account. You can send shipping notifications via email. No need to log in to do that either.
Seriously, I only log into most of my accounts maybe once a month or so.
