Default Ebay authenticate

Hi guys in UK,

In the USA there is a program named Ebay authenticate, the seller send the item for authenticity verification to ebay and ebay will send the item after auction end to the buyer, with 20 % sales fees. is this option available in the UK?

Sounds interesting. What is the point of that service ? So buyers can't pull a fast one saying it's a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ ?

I am a US Ebay seller,I have nver heard of such?
Ebay does not have the expertise to authenticate everything under the sun.
There used to be third party escrow service?

There is a site which authenticate designer handbag and Ebay sellers would use it.
But it is not Ebay.

It's not available in the UK, but is definitely a neat service I suppose they're trialling in the US. Though it is limited to designer handbags, hopefully they expand on that selection.

You're essentially handing over any risk to eBay. So they get experts to inspect it, take pictures, list it, and they take a cut.

When the item sells, you get your money.

If the buyer claims its ⊗⊗⊗⊗, returns it, etc., you don't have to deal with it. It's all dealt with by eBay (and their experts I suppose).

They either outsource it, or have in house experts, i'm not sure which. But I very much doubt these are the same people from customer services who have no clue what they're on about.

eBay offers it, as well as some other companies. I think eBay takes the lowest commission.

That would solve all the problems with people selling Used Louis Vuitton bags etc claiming they are used but legitimate.

I think this is limited to only handbags. So it wont work for you. :(

And anyway, it'd have to be really good for you to get away with it.

It definitely would. But the question is, whether sellers are ready to put up with 20% fees.

It's unlikely to sell at retail price, even if it was new, as people would rather just buy from a reputable retailer than ebay. So you'll need to sell it for cheaper, and take the 20% hit with fees. That could really eat into the final price you get.

20% is not that much more than ebay + playpal+ shipping fees for most small sellers.

It is cheaper than amazons fees for many categories.

I meant, once you factor in the fact you'll need to sell perhap 10 to 15% less than retail value, the 20% does add up.

20% on its own however, yes of course, its not much, especially given the fact postage to eBay is covered, and if it doesn't sell they return it back to you for free.
