Default Item £3 selling price on EBay - how much would you buy it for from Alibaba.com?

If an item is selling for £3 inc postage in the UK on EBay - how much would you negotiate to buy for from the manufacturer on Alibaba.com?

£3 selling inc postage to the UK would mean the seller on EBay is getting the item for less than 20pence because to post the item must cost at least £1 then the eBay selling costs and PayPal fees

Obviously at these levels you need to ask yourself if the time is worth the effort

As an example I sell one particular item as a side gig for £8.19 in a niche market - it costs me 74p to have it delivered to me - postage through EB costs me £3 - padded envelope is 6p - after EB costs I get £6 so profit is £2.20.

I sell 12 a day - it pays for my car - takes me 1 hour a day

To me it is worth doing but I cannot see how selling at £3 could ever be worth it

But each to their own I suppose

Selling for £3 including postage. Its not a question of how much I'd pay for each but how many they'll give me for a penny.

Managed payments as it stands will destroy the super-cheap end of the market. It's bad enough with paypal micropayments.

Sounds like this listing is a loss leader to me.

Don’t bother selling anything for less than £7-£8 is my advice

I have never subscribed to the theory of a loss leader - certainly not for on-line sales and definitely not for 12,000 sales

Using this can help you find out what you should be paying

Just over 12k items sold at £2.99 inc uk postage it means the item is being bought literally for pennies to sell at that price with free postage then taking out associated eBay PayPal costs, that’s the only way i can think seller doing it

yes like I sell silicone clear gel case 100 to 200+ a day 1 case cost me 0.20p Including shipping from china to UK cost me 30p I sell it 2.99£ which gives me 0.60p per sale profit. 100-120£ per day but lots of packing so extra packing cost due to this I only sell on my account this and 1 more item because otherwise packing will kill me so too much packing too many emails and then royal mail lost item etc.

I do agree that its better to sell 10 different items having selling price like 6-10£ and each item sold 5-15 items every days and gives you 2-3£ net profit per sale
which gives you more profit less effort and less email and less restocking space etc selling too low cost item is lot more hassle

Hi

If sales volume is large then it is worth it otherwise I would stick to higher prices items.
