Activity: 0% Longevity: 10% | | information to open a UK account
Hi all, I wanted to open an account and a new shop in the UK.
My intention is this:
open an account on ebay.it with REAL information about a person.
After about 2-3 weeks I move to ebay.co.uk and start my shop.
I wanted to know, are there any requirements I must have to sell in the UK?
Can I also use an ITALIAN bank account?
Thank you.
PS: I already sell in Italy, I wanted to try the UK market

you can use your italian ebay account to sell worldwide it is not recommended to do international selling before collecting selling history on domestic market
if domestic market does not have an own ebay site it is better to start on ebay.com and collect selling history there
local markets tend to kill off new sellers registered outside very quickly

I don't think I'm getting it right.
Is what I said right?
I would like to open an account first in ebay.co.uk, wait for weeks, and finally sell on ebay.co.uk.

You can sell on ebay UK via your IT account without issue.
Are you wanting to open a separate .co.uk account, if so why? That said, as mentioned above, it's not going to be easy.

ebay uk account is beneficial as it allows to sell without VAT within the UK threshold , an italian account would be liable for VAT from first penny

in the first months of an account (2-3) I can't increase sales much, otherwise I would be banned (I put about 2 a day).
The Italian market is very small.
I would like to create an Italian account with information from a real person in which case I can verify if eBay asks me.
Also, for the bank, how do I do it? Can I use an Italian bank?

| Again, that's simply not true. There are strict rules regarding how a foreign national can operate in the UK and enjoy the VAT allowance and simply having your stock in the UK isn't good enough. This scenario is played out over and over on the Amazon forums, primarily by Asian sellers. I'm not an accountant but I guess if they've paid VAT to get the goods into the UK and are VAT registered they can claim it back.
Anyway, OP is an Italian, from what they've said they ship from Italy in relatively small numbers so lets keep it relevant - they will not be entitled to any kind of VAT allowance. Indeed, I assume they will be charged VAT on sales by ebay if they ship to the UK in the same way we are if we make sales to the EU.
One thing were are agreed on is an EU national is not going to find it easy to create a .co.uk account anyway and even then as I mentioned above, there are strict rules as to how they are entitled to the VAT allowance and I'll wager OP has no intention of trying to meet them.

registration and item location outside the UK: VAT is charged by ebay
registration and item location in the UK: VAT is not charged by ebay and once the threshold is reached ebay will restrict account and demand VAT registration
registration in the UK and item location outside the UK: ebay will charge VAT
registration outside the UK and item location in the UK: ebay will restrict account and demand VAT registration

Did you miss the part where one said an Italian selling in the UK from Italy would be better off because of the UK VAT allowance and the other said it was completely the opposite way around. |

Not sure why you've got a problem with me correcting them and clarifying matters if it helps folk. Why copy their inaccurate posts, wouldn't it have been better to agree with the correct answers or are you not aware of Non Established Taxable Persons either? Seems pretty important for EU citizens since Brexit.
Ironically, I initially confirmed what they said about the difficulty in creating a .co.uk account as a non citizen and simply asked OP why they wanted one rather than using their IT account. If he hadn't felt the need to reply on their behalf then I wouldn't have needed to correct him.
Not the first time this poster has made incorrect posts on this forum, maybe there's a pattern.... |

@hank - kindly point out for the rest of us which of the 3 posts I quoted is incorrect. Just not seeing it myself if I am honest.

everything was correct , most non residents looking to open UK ebay accounts want to do so to pose as UK sellers and taxation is a major problem to do so otherwise people could just register somewhere and state UK as item location
regarding HMRC registration for a foreigner , this is possible but HMRC would send their whole activity details to Italy
for this reason the most desirable solution is registering a UK account and stay below the threshold so that no VAT needs to be paid and no information is sent to home country

No problem with corrections I am just not sure what your correcting here. | LOL, now you're just trolling me, I've already told you how it works for a NETP.
...and just who is 'the rest of us', I don't see anyone telling me I'm 'wrong' other than you.
Would you like me to provide some links for you to explain how an EU citizen, operating form an EU State, shipping from the EU does not have VAT exemption even if they have a .co.uk account (FYI they even agreed with me eventually on this one). I'll say the same to you as I said to 'murdered', lets keep it relevant and post replies to the OP, regarding questions the OP has.
All this could have been avoided if they'd simply kept the thread relevant and not tried to jump in there with a half-cocked attempt to answer on OP's behalf and correct me which backfired.
Anyway, for whatever reason, you aren't happy with my clarifications on how it works for a NETP so I promise you I will not post on this thread again other than to provide explanatory links from HMRC etc as I offered if you so wish.

| I didn't say you were wrong buddy. I said you were saying exactly the same thing as MBE and yet telling him that he was wrong.... that leads to a lot more confusion.
I think you maybe misreading MBE posts honestly.
But you can early clear that up by letting me know which of his posts was wrong? I know I would appreciate that as would everyone else I am sure that reads the thread
