As it says "4 Months Ago" at the top of the article I assumed it was up-to-date information.

I'm seeing a few people online (even as recently as today) saying they got what they call HMRC "nudge" letters and many have sold £7k upwards. They don't state how old their ebay account is, whether they list multiples or have sold in huge volumes over lots of transactions/listings, so, it's hard to say what generates the letter. I'd assume they are private sellers.

I know HMRC do data-matching too, though.

There were emails sent out in March 2023 to ebay UK members advising of the new terms and conditions "Additional information about the data we process in order to comply with new consumer, anti-fraud and tax regulations." - though that's all a bit vague.

Had a root around to see if there's more precise updates and came up with this Tech companies must report income details of online sellers to HMRC after 2023

https://www.gov.uk/government/consul...ts-regulations
The link takes you to the HMRC page which explains that the consultation is over, HMRC are now considering the responses and drafting legislation which will come in in 2024.

The OECD Model Rules do not inlcude sellers of goods, however the UK government will be including these sellers."

so you're right enough!

(Though the gov dot uk site says "The final regulations are expected to be made in early 2023 to come into force on 1 January 2024.")

You have to laugh at this UK government everything is being released in early spring and never us, another point in case, the cost of living one off payment for recipients of universal credit was just paid last week, in official summer time.

...to assist with their incoming winter energy bills maybe?

FYI British Summer Time is merely putting the clocks forward and hour, it doesn't change the weather, when bills are paid, or the price of food.

I can assure you that the summer in the UK does not start on the last Sunday in March. ;)
