Does eBay charge the vat on some items
So are we paying vat twice once to the seller once to the buyer
on purchased items as I just got charged
And I'm not vat registered
It's seems to get worse on the platform
Thx

You should go to Ebay help section and find the answers to many of your questions, like reserve ,like 30 days Money back policy, like returns. and the fee schedule
also if your seller performance falls, you would end up paying higher FVF

Of course you pay VAT that's got nothing to do with ebay, it's the law as it is applied to the seller. There is a difference in the way UK and Non-UK sales have it itemised but it's still there on all sales.
You do realise that Wetherspoons, Poundland, Gala Bingo and all the other places you spend money are charging you VAT too?
Ironically, if you were VAT registered you could claim some of it back, you don't seem to understand VAT.
IMO you simply cannot find anything positive to say about ebay, you've got it in your head that they're acting recklessly, immorally, or in your eyes, maybe even illegally and should simply avoid it all together. It's clearly not for you.

Why would i not say these and sweep them under
the carpet
No returns gets overridden by eBay it's usless
I got charged 17% selling a drone it leaves no profit
For me so why not tell everyone don't
use no reserve it's a ripoff at 4%
If you do make a profit in eBay the tax man wants it
There's only one making a killing and that's eBay
They make billions each year
I don't see a profit for sellers that's why I rent
Out houses and sell them for a profit
That's how I can make a few million ££s
Making 20K on eBay is not for me
I don't know if you can buy from China and make lots of money drop shipping I've never tried it
Life is player Vs player were all fighting for every pound
And most people drift through life skint
It's not just about making money its retaining it
I suppose some people can live on 20K a year but I want
500K a year to have a nice house a fast car and a hot wife

The UK has not caught up with the USA where state tax is applied at the checkout.
In the UK at present no VAT is applied at checkout and I think it would be hard to do in the future as the VAT system is different from US sales tax.
As you know a limited company can trade under the VAT threshold, there are move afoot to declare to the UK tax department all sales as of next year Quote:

Let us plebs carry on with ebay.

If he is making millions flipping real estate, why is he carping paying 4% reserve selling on Ebay?
He does not read,I just listed a watch on EBay,I skipped reserve as I read there is a fee.
Ebay is a flea market, dealers used to liquidate merchandise they cant sell in physical store, now many rely on Ebay to pay rent and buy food.
Dont sell anything you cant afford to lose on Ebay

The problem buying from China and selling them on EBay is that your Chinese dealers are also selling on Ebay, how can you compete with your supplier?

That's my opinion and you might think it's cheap
That's the your opinion.
I had a computer shop made no money sold it after
5 years and then
I bought houses and rented them out.
Its not a get rich quick scheme its what a lot of millionaires
do they invest in real estate.
I presume eBay is the same and it may take 10 years
Selling on eBay to make a decent honest living.
Maybe Amazon is better than eBay I don't know.
Are sale slow on eBay I don't know
Are there to many sellers and not a lot of buyers
I don't know.
Do buyers want everything for cheap maybe.
Thx
Steve

I seems you like to take things out of context and use some short form for the amusement of others

What a great way to make people buy socks.
Interrupt a debate about selling on eBay to push your sock shop.
I can’t see any buyers but can see a warning.

VAT is charged on many international sales by ebay to the buyer , if this is bad for the seller?
this depends , for example ebay UK charge VAT if item location is in the EU and if the seller is registered in the EU but have item location as UK ebay do not charge VAT but block them until they register for VAT
this practice has taken out a lot of foreign competition so that UK sellers who are under VAT threshold do not need to pay VAT for uk deliveries and can get more money because there is less competition now

From Tech Platforms to Handover Sellers Income Data to HMRC by 2023 You should be aware that starting in early 2023, tech companies like eBay, Amazon, and Airbnb will be required to share information about your earnings with HMRC if your business sells goods or services through these online marketplaces.
The Government is now holding consultations on proposals to require digital platforms to maintain revenue records of sellers, both inside and outside the UK, following the lead of the OECD.
Though, as the website (above) is aimed at businesses, I'm not sure if the same rules apply to private sellers. Whether the tax agencies have the manpower and time to track everyone is another matter, but it sounds risky.
