change o2 ip problem
 

hey

i tried the little solution in the sticky thread but it doesnt seem to work for me...

basically i telnet into the o2 router.

then paste the following:

ip iflist
ip ifdetach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
ip ifconfig intf=O2_ADSL2plus hwaddr=xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
ip ifattach intf=O2_ADSL2plus
saveall


of course with the xx changed to random A to F / 0-9 sequence.

But the router fails to get a new ip, if i check in the router its says:

Link Status: Contacting DHCP server...


And doesnt get a new ip, basically failing to connect to the internet due to the fact it has not been assigned a new ip.

I have to go back to telnet, and paste in a mac address which was working previously to get the router to connect to the internet again, but problem with this is that it gives me back the same ip.....

Any ideas?

Can always ring o2 and get them to change your dynamic IP to a static one, cost £5 a month, but guarantees a new IP and location too.
The thing with the o2 dynamic IP is that it is assigned to your your mac number on your router, and although it is supposed to change, the majority of them are sticky, from what I have learnt, also you cannot force a change with them.
Another option, if you get through to the right person,ask them to reset your IP from the server. Might help, but I doubt it.
Why pay for a dongle etc when you can just pay £5 and have it changed, if that IP gets suspended go back to dynamic, all you lost is a fiver, its not on contract, just month to month.
