getting uk phone no
 

i live in uk . so just wanted to know from my uk friends in this forum as to which uk phone provider they use for getting a local phone no.
is it better to use voip or trac phone.....

Hi, Trac phone is American. VOIP is hit and miss but works for some. I suggest you try one of the virtual phone number providers, like ring central.

Use the paid for service to avoid getting recycled junk numbers. You will have a choice of area codes for most UK cities.

If you have a BT land line you could make use of Call Sign, but it is not very stealthy and you can only have one additional number per line.

How come? I registered for a Call Sign number 5 mins ago. £2.59 per month and I get my area code. The number is randomly generated by providing the next available local number, but I cannot choose. I will know my number when it arrives in 2-3 days.

Simply bescause of the limited numbers available and the fact it is linked to your landline.

I would have assumed that is the case for the call forwarding services unless some forward to a mobile? Planet numbers who offer a similar service charge £49 set up and £10 per month.

You get a country wide choice of area codes and you can forward to a mobile yes.

Nothing wrong with call sign if it serves your purpose though :)

I am using voipphone in paypal but paypal not making the calls on free 0560 number do I need to have paid number ?

the 056 is ok for seller acc on ebay, you need a geographical format for paypal location confirmation, and it needs to be very good match

I buy a number from there list and there was no numbers for london 0207,0208 avaliable so I selected richmond which is near to greater london and I believe the closest one. but the code is not 0208 or 0207 but it is 0174? will it still risk I believe some one can keep his number if he was in one city and want same number in next city is that possible still paypal will make trouble?

I also click verify me via post but I am just worry as in future if they look at my account or if there computer looked it and pops me and ask enter contact information again?

Did eny one try vonage or SOHO call they have london number and only cost 2£?

ok it depends what you need it for, if its to verify paypal location and you DO NOT have access to address, the code must be correct.....but if you have access to address, doesnt matter, wait for letter

hi mate i have bought a number with soho and it worked fine. just 2 pound they have all the area codes and u have a big choice of numbers to choose from!

are you from london ? actually I live in london and my default code is 0208 and SOHO have only 0207 number I am not sure if 0207 and 0208 number can be used in greater london and center london vice versa?

I mean if I buy 0207 will paypal still check it in there local area codes database and can say this number doesn't match to your location as I am in 0208 area code ?

^^generally speaking yes..pp will check their database not only the 0208 bit but the following 1-4 digits may not match up, silly really as nowadays people move and take number with them between areas, but this has been outr experience on forum, so if address isnt accessible with change address to one that is or make sure number is very accurate

PP only check for london and accept (0203,0207,0208) as valid london numbers ;)

Yes 0203 is 100% ok to use for london.

I verified my new PP account with a BT call sign number with only the area code matching.

For more then one accounts use sipgate.co.uk its best and you can have more then 100's number for free.

Am thinking of verifying a 2nd EBAY/PP account that is registered to my current address. Can I use Call Sign for this? The account will take high amount of sales eventually so it will be flagged up with PP, will need to be sure if Call Sign will cause any problem later on down the line? THANKS
