Re: Address vs ip location
It depends a lot on how your ISP handles IP distribution, and ISPs keep that kind of data, fairly understandably, under wraps. An IP will geolocate you to an extent, but not the kind of extent where someone could find your house on google maps or anything without a lot of guesswork (or, stalking).
Some ISPs like to distribute more based on geography, others don't really care or have a different kind of network structure. Without being intimate with the server hardware of the ISP, you can't really know for sure.
One of the most effective ways to try and geolocate an IP - ever seen one of those dodgy adverts for a chat/adult site that saying something like 'Looking for -cough, cough- in [town name]? Click here!" That's doing guesswork based on IP. When I lived in the UK, I lived in Glasgow and for some reason, consistently, the town name suggested was always Manchester. Here in Japan, it's constantly Tokyo despite me being a few hundred miles away.
