Sky IP won't change.

Wondering if anyone else have this problem, never been an issue before I'd just flick power off/on and new IP would assign but today no matter what I tried it won't just keeps coming back the same :suspicious:

are you behind a router? If not i would get one so you can spoof your mac address. Any cheap linksys router will give you the ability to change your mac address. Just login to router change the last digit then save changes. Once you save changes you need to reboot your modem then you should get a new ip from your ISP.

Penya 02-17-2011 01:57 PM

Yes I got router, I used to do it when I had cable broadband but now its dsl and not sure it'll work

menaice 02-17-2011 02:06 PM

yes it will work, make sure your modem is set to "bridge mode" . You don't want your modem acting as a router. Once the modem is in bridge mode you can then install your router and spoof your mac address. You will get a new IP everytime you spoof your mac addy and save the changes.

***Note*** most newer modems issued by ISP act as a router, which i hate, but setting it to bridge mode will allow you to install your own router.

Thanks for your help menaice, unforunately this is ISP's modem/router and the only other router I have is cable one. Will try to leave it off for a night:doh:

If you google the make and model of your modem, you can find out how to set your modem to bridge mode. Its pretty easy to do. If you can get that accomplished then you will be good to go. Hell you can even call your ISP and tell them you need to set your modem to bridge mode and they will walk you through it.

I'm on "SKY" and having one of those crappy Sagems and from what I understand I can't Bridge Mode it and Sky wont help me either:mad2:

See if this link brings up your modem login page
http://10.1.1.1

If it asks for a username and password, it's usually something like admin, admin or admin, password.

If that gets you into the modem then follow these steps
Click "Advanced Setup", accept warning
Click WAN
Click on Add
Set the "ATM PVC Configuration" settings as VPI 8 and VCI 35. Service Catogory is "UBR Without PCR" and the Quality of Service tick-box leave unchecked.
Click Next
Select "Bridging"
Encapsulation mode is set to "LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING"
Click Next
Ensure that the settings are "TICK" enable Bridge Service, Service Name br_8_35
Click Next
Click Save
Now click Edit next to the first WAN entry, (protocol PPPoE)
Click Next, Next and Next
On Network Address Translation Settings page, UNTICK "Enable WAN Service"
Click Next then click Save
Confirm that Bridge (in Protocol) is the only WAN connection that has state of ENABLED

Modem should now be in FULL bridge mode.

Thank you menaice, I'm away from home now and will definitely try it when back. When I had cable internet I used to change some letters/digits in MAC and it would change IP and when I'd change that back I could go back to previous IP. Can this set up work the same way?

I know, I had SKY for over a year now and I think only on one occasion it didn't change my IP when turning router off so I had to do it again. But this time f****r stuck to me for 24hr now. I also noticed the range have changed from 90.xxx.x.x to 2.xxxx.x.x. Will have to it menaice's way now and need a new router.

Yes if the above steps work for you, once you get your modem into bridge mode you will then hook up your old router. Once router is in place just reset your modem and then you will have internet connection. YOu will then be able to just log into your router and change your mac address whenever you like
