Smile eBay UK accounts - are there selling limits?

Hi guys,

I have a UK eBay account, and I'm trying to list an item for sale that I actually purchased using that same account. It's a high-value item that should sell for around £700-800. I also want to list it with Buy-it-now for £799.

The eBay website is giving me a limit of $500 USD, so I can not list the item.

I have called, emailed and chatted to eBay and they say different things every time you get in touch: That this limit IS in place for UK accounts, even though it says USD (it just gets converted); or that this SHOULD NOT be in place for UK accounts, they escalate the issue and nothing gets done.

Could someone please, please shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply.

I know there's a limit of 10 items per month. I'm asking about the amount of money.

Thanks

I don't think the total value of the sale applies I just think it's how many items per month you can list etc.

As above, No limit amounts, unless there is for certain category's but i only use 4 so wouldn't know if there was or not in others but in i have listed things on accounts that are under a month old for more value with no problem

are you loggin into .com or.co.uk

have you tried another browser ?

Hi - thanks all for your replies.

That is the problem I am having. For some reason, my account was originally registered on .com. I called customer support and they said "We'll switch you over to .co.uk and switch your currency to GBP and the limit should be gone within 24 hours". It's now been 4 weeks. When I call/email or chat with eBay, some agents say "You should not see a limit of $500, that is for US accounts only". Others say "The limit is there for ALL eBay sites, the $500 gets converted to local currency", while some also say "The limits are there for new sellers".

I have even emailed the eBay executive office. It really is ubelievable that not one person working at eBay can give you a straight answer and take ownership of the problem. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced - they just keep passing the buck.

have you tired to login .co.uk with the same login ?

Failing that i would just try register an account on the u.k site with the same details and if i was asked i would say i was told to do that by support, but thats me, i am not saying thats what you should do, maybe you should just keep plugging away at support.

Hi - I have opened a brand new account, just to test, and there are NO selling limits on it. However, if you're trying to sell a high-value item, isn't it better to sell it from an already established account, where people can check your feedback?

Is it a personal account you have opened or business ?

People say it is better to open an account and buy and sell a few things first.

i have opened accounts and sold stuff for anything from 500 pounds to a few k straight off the bat not that i reccomend it, guess it's personal choice again.

Good luck :-)

Hi - it's a personal account. They have also told me that I can upgrade to business account to lift this limit. However, a they have lied to me a number of times already, and it seems that the agents have no idea what they're talking about, I'm not sure if I can trust them.

What are the benefits of having a personal account, as opposed to a business one?

Thanks!
