UK bank account for AUD?

I need to move some Aussie $ and was wondering if I could open a UK bank account, well someone who i know over there will, could I move AUD to a UK bank account?
Preferably without conversion to UK pounds.

Or is Entroypay another way of doing it, but again, I don't want to convert $

Any other suggestions happily received, by PM if need be.

It's a rather large sum, and I'd rather not put that much through paypal. I suppose I could do it in bits.

If by chance you use Commonwealth Bank here, check with them. I 'think' you can send AU funds marked DO NOT CONVERT to the UK. Problem is that at the receiving bank, the funds could be converted.

It does. HSBC usually wants a minium deposit on a branch to branch transfer.

But there's also this not wanting conversion thingy. 99% of funds transferred to the UK get automatically converted to sterling. Might mean a big loss as the exchange rate is pooor.

If your friend goes into one of the Australian bank branches in the UK (or their service agents) they can open an Australian Dollar account.

Alternatively look at the Channel Islands or The Isle of Man - they both operate currency accounts
