so basically with these "thermal printers", i dont need to buy and replace ink right? all i need is the specialised thermal labels?

^ yes, that is how it works.

For UK, Dymo 99014 labels are your friend for use with Paypal postage. Oh, and use Firefox when creating your postage labels in Paypal, it works best (also for printing via roylmail).

On eb UK, I think someone is selling dymo 450.... you get it free if you buy 12 (I think) original dyno labels (total about 190 gbp) - not my cup of tea but someone might like.

I prefere 3rd party labels - much cheaper and do the same thing pretty much - its only a postage label so why pay more.

..... my 'tightwad' thoughts on the subject

Does anyone know with these 'thermal' printers, is there an option as there is on normal deskjets to print 'draft' - so the print quality is a bit faded.

Sound like a silly question as why would someone want draft quality when they are not paying for any ink! - I have my reasons.

Thanks in advance - Alps xXx

i intend to use it with royal mail smartstamp.

also the brother ql - 560 like the one ive linked to is cheaper compared to the one youve talked about - dymo 450 - DYMO LABEL WRITER 450. BNIB DIRECT FROM DYMO/NEWELL | eBay

there is not much differnce between the 2? is there? as i only intend to print labels with them and the both do the same thing?

I would check what the labels cost, it may be like french items where you buy the item for a song but get stung on the needed parts like the labels in this case.

I would also want to know if there was a speed or noise difference. The number of times I have ended up packing in the middle of the night to catch up.
