Paypal Direct Debit - what's this?!?!

Hi Guys,

Just had a look at one of my statement and a few days ago there is a transaction for direct debit of Paypal for a small amount (~£2)

appears as the following on the statement:

PAYPAL PAYMENT , INITIAL PAYMENT

What's all this about? Anything to worry about?!

Account is around a month old and not linked etc

so paypal have put the sum(£2)into your account?

or took the sum out of your account?

if put in your okay..but if it is a stealth paypal account and they took it out that could be a problem

which one?

or is it a slight alteration?

does a limitation normally come? if so what's the timespan?

another question, why to they do this?! :amen:

GTB 09-05-2011 05:16 PM

not sure if you will get limited and not sure when if you do:doh:

i think they do it to see if the details match

never been though this myself though so cannot comment on what, why where and when

Some person posted all about this last week but i can't find the thread now, think it got moved to the subs or removed, as i remember they said it was a new thing that they do to find the details of the account holder, anyone else know the post im talking about ? think most here disagreed with the persons post at the time.

i heard this scenario a few times

just hope it is not actually a new ploy by paypal to catch us out

normally you get an email when they are debiting from your account

op...did you get an email???

GreenBean 09-05-2011 06:17 PM

Was there a thread recently? :spy:

NotAHappyBunny 09-05-2011 08:21 PM

did you receive a warning email?
I had the option to do this with a paypal account to verify a cc once - i obviously backed out.
They can't do this without your consent - surely?

:pop2:

GreenBean 09-06-2011 03:58 AM

Of course they can. If you allow the direct debit mandate, they take an implied approval to do what they want. It's a reason to keep on top of paypal activity and one's own bank accounts.
Be alert :spy:

ng87 09-06-2011 08:03 AM

no warning email, withdrawals still working from paypal too

Stigger 09-06-2011 02:59 PM

Nice, For how long i wonder :juggle:

GTB 09-06-2011 03:07 PM

^^^he could get away with it as the name on paypal is only a slight alteration of the name on the bank account

only time will tell

keep us posted ng87!

Pretty foolish statement to make seeing as though you are not talking from personal or in fact any experience in regards to this kind of situation.

thats good mate!

i had just about got to the point where the 21 days would of been removed but they upheld them as i had a problem just before the 3 months were up

lets hope that the direct debit does not cause you any issues

ShadyOne 09-06-2011 07:08 PM

PayPal take money from bank accounts once a direct debit has been set up. I am not saying they randomly snipe little sums of money when you had your back turned. Well, that has never happened to me so far anyway. Their's always a reason for these things, look for it is my advice.

Unless of course this is a 'NEW THING' that PayPal are doing to catch us all out, in that case, we're all f***ed!

Good luck ;)
