yes it is just a normal card, gets sent to your address, you can add to paypal

There's a minimum spend of £5 per transaction so adding to a paypal account may get a bit expensive.

the avs issue though? unsure if you can change to another address....

If I read it right you can send them as gift cards to friends, perhaps a way around that particular problem?

It would appear so - copied from their FAQ's
