| | | biggesmalls | 04-01-2012 12:21 PM | Is this buyer trying to scam me? Hi,
I sold a item yesterday and checked my account today and the buyer who bought the item had left me a messaging asking the item to be sent to a relatives address
There is also a note saying this attached to the payment with the other address.
Just wondering will i be safe sending it to the other address as its not in there paypal but is in a note attached to the payment
:confused:Any advice, Thanks |
| NoneOther | 04-01-2012 12:25 PM | If you want to be safe and covered by p/p seller protection then refund the payment and ask them to resubmit it with the correct address they want it delivered to.
Obviously send them a message regarding this before you do anything. |
| oompaloompa | 04-01-2012 12:27 PM | you are not covered by seller protection, with the address just on a message - then again it is probably ok in terms of they are not trying to hide address by emailing you privately etc, probably not a scammer move...depends on how much the value is, for low value I would probably send, for higher I would do as noneother said, refund, explain that it needs resubmitting with postal address added properly as gift address. |
| sleepyboyz | 04-01-2012 12:31 PM | Which country did he want you to send to? Same country? I will only send item if the buyer address and the relative address are living in the same country |
| biggesmalls | 04-01-2012 04:05 PM | Its the same country its being sent to and the value is around 65 quid ,they have around 100 feedback |
oomps is spot on as per
if it was a scammer then they would not attach it to the invoice
but there are dumb scammers too so if you feel like it is too big a risk then just mention you wont be covered and want to send to the registered address
they probably would be okay with it although it will be a slight inconvenience,a decent buyer would completely understand |
| biggesmalls | 04-01-2012 04:25 PM | Thanks ill do that its not worth the risk |
i think if the buyer is legit they will completely understand and be cool with it:)
they have no choice anyways, you are well within your rights to cancel |
| AmazonStealth | 04-01-2012 08:06 PM | From personal experience, you need to feel your customer out. If they want you to ship to a different country, thats a huge red flag. If they want you to ship to a different address, but is in the same state or city, than probably not a huge deal as people dont know how to change or are too lazy to change information. I have done this countless times and have had zero issues. |
| slapped | 04-01-2012 09:36 PM | Could also be a Fellow Stealther that simply wants to buy your product but has NO access to his registered Paypal/ebay address,,,Could also be a gift,,,,for a 100 feedback account,,and that amount of money plus the buyers approach as OOMPA Mentioned above,,I DOUBT it is a Scammer,, |
They key point is that you would not be covered for sending to address not registered to the pp account. |
| GrannyT | 04-02-2012 10:28 AM | So when we all ask sellers to send to a different address, as so many have said they do, does that mean we are all scammers as well?
Just a thought .....
:ranger: |
its all about risk
is it worth the risk
cheap and cheerfull...yeah fck it
expensive goodies...hell no |
| biggesmalls | 04-06-2012 09:43 AM | I messaged the buyer anyway and was proper nice about it and so i took the risk and sent it to his relatives address with no problem at all.
I wouldnt risk it again though,3 times this week ive had people message saying i havent recieved my item ,When ive gone to check the tracking all were signed for over a week ago,If that would of been at a relatives address i would have no seller protection.
There are loads of nice genuine buyers but theres a lot of scaveners trying to get free and discount items everyday |
| Thankful | 04-06-2012 09:51 AM | I get buyers like this all the time- from what i can tell no scams so far but then again the items have not been high value.
Usually alright - check their feedback too! |
| Sneakee | 04-06-2012 10:54 AM | It seemed like a year ago I got more buyers that asked me to send an item to another addy. I never really thought about it and just did it. I don't think it was anything too expensive though. Best of luck. I'm sure it's not a big deal. |
| yotano211 | 04-06-2012 01:23 PM | I would never ship anything this way, I don't care if it's high or low value items. I mean, come on, we already pay sky high ebay and paypal fees. I just don't like to lose any of my products to anyone and also pay ebay/paypal fees.
I did this for some laptop memory pieces that sold for $8 last month. I refunded the money and asked the buyer to input his address or I would cancel the transaction. One buyer gave me a negative feedback. I talked to a ebay rep and they took it off cuz I was not protected. I quickly relist the item and sold for a little more. haha, jokes on him (buyer).
*just my 2 cuban cents worth |
| biggesmalls | 04-08-2012 06:01 PM | Alot of people will be genuine people/buyers asking to ship to another address so there is someone in to sign for the parcel/letter.
I checked googled about it at the time and it came up about scams which is probably about 1 in a 1000 chance
Sorry if i dont make sense im hammered i just watched United secure the 20th Leugue Title :-) |
