paypal welcome letter

Hey, not sure if anyone know's but paypal now send welcome letters to new customers.

My dad has recently signed up for an account and received the letter. I have done a google search online for the letter and came to an interesting forum.

Not sure if i can post the actual link as its the forum on paypals site. But if you type "paypal welcome letter" into google it should come up.

Yeah, last account that I made with fiancée's name with her parents address just got the same letter.

they_screwed_me_too 07-13-2012 12:08 PM

not seen any of this yet on new accounts

unkown5454 07-13-2012 12:19 PM

Has been talked about here in the past. Some theorize that PP is testing whether or not your address is legitimate. Just speculation though.

what dose it say on the letter..
ill bet it has a bit saying if you have not opened this account please ring this number..
and then the account will be shut..PP are sneaky..
and i know this as when i had a pp account limited a few years ago i send some receipts as they asked
and one of them i put mobile number on.and a few days later they rang saying this is so so from t-mobile ( and i was with t-mobile ?) and we are updating your account can you confirm your name and address for me..so not thinking said my real name and did not have chance to say my address they hung up right after i gave my name..then realised it was pp..sneaky git's
well you live and learn,,,

Here's what mine says:

Dear ?????????

Welcome to PayPal.

Your new account makes you part of a community of 220 million users worldwide for whom PayPal is the preferred way to pay online; and now you can make it yours.

So, what can you expect from your new PayPal account?

Then there's some nonsense about being safe, paying quickly and shopping where you want.

Yours sincerely
Cameron McLean

All adds to the necessity to have access to any address used

GrannyT 07-13-2012 04:08 PM

I thought this was on all accounts? Every business account I have opened in the last while has had this

:ranger:

NoneOther 07-13-2012 04:20 PM

I've never had a letter on any premier account only business as GT says.

GrannyT 07-13-2012 04:22 PM

The days of any old random address are sadly - IMO - gone

You need access to the address - makes things a little more difficult but not insurmountable

Elijah 07-13-2012 04:39 PM

I have never had these even on the very few "real" address that I use. 99% of my address are straight out of my butt and work great for the 1 day period required for my purposes.

But why would this necessitate access to the address? It's just a useless "welcome to hell" letter?

GrannyT 07-13-2012 04:41 PM

Unless the receipient rings Paypal and says "I've received this letter from you and ........."

NoneOther 07-13-2012 04:43 PM

.....or it is returned it to sender marked 'Not known at tis address'

GrannyT 07-13-2012 04:48 PM

As I understand Elijahs MO he is very much slash & Burn

Only needs an account for one day apparently

NoneOther 07-13-2012 05:12 PM

What a waste of time and effort.

Still, I suppose to each his own.

Killuminati 07-14-2012 07:41 AM

I remember this i started a thread on this a while back got a welcome letter when i opened a buying account

I just saw this post, and just had to reply, since you derided my method of operation as "a waste of time and effort", which it most certainly is not.

Really? How the heck can you say that for certain when you know nothing more than the fact that I use 2 per day and leave them in the dust after that? You just made that comment with nothing to back it up. I have found that it is the only practical way for me to do business with these goons. And I no longer have to worry about limitation like I did before. And it takes like 2 minutes to make an account... and I use them to the limit each time... so it is time and effort well spent for me. I get to sell WAY more than I could with just the handful of accounts from before with nothing to worry about any more.

A nice letter to use in the "loo" when I need to wipe.

To overcome the idiocy of some old tart or foggey in Essex (or any other County) who does one of two things OR both.....

phones paypal to let them know they got mail not in their name & the world will explode OR

goes to the Village Post Office, demands to see the Post Master and tells him about this letter not in their name & he is to get off his public service rear end and get the mail delivered.

Such are the life interests of old tarts & foggeys. That welcome to hell letter must arrive. Its their civic duty to make sure.

This is why you choose an address in a deprived area (no offence to anybody) because they most likely would just bin such a letter and get on with whatever they do.
