So I just logged into a 5 day old ebay account to be greeted with :

MC081 Your account has been suspended because recent account activity has raised serious concerns. We've taken this precaution to protect our members and the eBay community.

Not a bleeding clue as to how this happened. Feel like I want to cry.

Same first+last name, new ebayID, new address, new number, new bank, new VCC, new DOB. 1 Listing.

Linked Paypal is still fine.

last3379 03-06-2013 07:34 PM

Ebay are picky on what you list as your first auction on a new account.. Maybe it is your item?

j4ck100 03-06-2013 07:36 PM

Used LCD Screen inverter, <£10 value ? I'll chat to them in the morning. Just feeling so confused/frustrated/helpless at the minute.

GreenBean 03-06-2013 07:55 PM

Jack,

Sorry to read this.

Define these two points please:

same first and last name and item listed.

Let's get look at this closely
:ranger:

Bunneh 03-06-2013 07:57 PM

I agree with GreenBean
and possibly stay away from computer components to start with.

j4ck100 03-06-2013 08:13 PM

Thanks for the help people,

I used my real First Name and Last Name on the account so that it matches the paypal account/ bank account etc. I was under assumption that they can't "get" you for just having the same name as a previous account.

I listed a single item, auction, starting 99p, 1.99 postage, and it was an LCD Screen inverter pulled from my laptop I repaired the other day (new screen didn't require this fully working part).

Emails:

18 February 2013 16:55
subject: Welcome to eBay!

5 March 2013 00:24
subject: Your eBay listing is confirmed: Compaq Presario CQ61 HP G61 Laptop LCD Screen Inverter 15.6" UK

5 March 2013 05:07
subject: MC067 NOTICE: eBay Listing(s) Cancelled

5 March 2013 05:07
subject: MC081 Your eBay account has been suspended -

Does this lead me to believe that it was something in the listing they didn't like as the suspension happened same day as the listing ?

Greenbean can you dechiper the suspension code MC081 ? In some research I've been looking at sometimes people get asked for ID then get their accounts back but I haven't had anything of the sort, just been told in an email if I want to appeal i can contact customer services. Is there any chance of getting this one back ? I had a real good feeling about it and was ultra careful with IP's / Cookies etc.

Best Regards for everyones help

Jack

slim jim 03-06-2013 08:45 PM

im not too sure why you'd want to work that hard to get back an account where you haven't even made a sale yet. you've already flagged the account, why not start from scratch?

j4ck100 03-06-2013 08:49 PM

Because it was an actual genuine address and I need to know what went wrong so I don't make the same mistake twice. And if I do a new one I'm going to need a new bank, VCC, Address, Phone number, email etc.

Bunneh 03-06-2013 09:04 PM

Have you had a previous suspended PayPal account with the same details on?

last3379 03-06-2013 09:04 PM

On your next account don't list any name brand in your title until you have some feedback.

Can't imagine that was the only thing banning the account ?

Sorry I meant have you had an eBay account that was in your first and last name that was shut down, before this one?

Yes but was under impression that's okay as not detailed enough to ensure you are the person, and address is 200 miles away.

eBay any PayPal are basically the same person.
So every eBay and PayPal account that you attach together become linked.

So if you are suspended on eBay and chose to use the same PayPal account on a new eBay account, they will still link and trace back to you, even if you are trading as John Doe.

That's why when an account is suspended you should always start fresh.

j4ck100 03-06-2013 10:00 PM

Thanks for your help but I don't think you quite understand where I'm coming from. Both the eBay and PayPal accounts are brand new, the only thing linking them back to old accounts is the first and last names, but your no telling me that if a certain John smith gets banned from eBay and a new eBay customer comes along called John smith, he won't get banned for a prospective link will he? Exactly the same situation here.

Thanks

Batman 03-06-2013 10:42 PM

You made every single thing new apart from the name ? cmon man you done so much you got of gone that 1 step ahead and just changed the name too to stay fully stealth. maybe thats what you got caught on

slim jim 03-06-2013 10:53 PM

they definitely did not get caught by the same name unless it's some unique name which is rare. they must be doing something that is linking the accounts. these things don't happen magically.

j4ck100 03-06-2013 11:01 PM

^ Exactly my point. Unless it is a random ban, do these even occur?

I used the same listing template as I used to on an old account but didn't think this would matter. I will see if I can get anything out of them in the meantime.

Thanks

Sandy D 03-06-2013 11:38 PM

This is considered a high risk item and ebay is stepping up the new accounts that list high risk items out of the gate.

Do not list any high risk, electronics, cell phone etc on a new account.

It will not last long anymore.

hazy 03-06-2013 11:44 PM

It Happened Again

I bet they would have let him stay if they saw he was a buyer an not a seller. My buyer account has some much info linked to suspended accounts yet I get away with murder.

So what was the activity? Category of listing?

Thanks

what about date of birth ?

What about items and genral location.

^^these along with your name could get you^^

What about listing pictures and diascription < Alll New ?

what about laptop user account, what about i.p addresses.

Add a couple of the about together and your doomed, you name is a massive give away so if you use it then 1-2 things added to that will see you out of there like it has.

How about reading post 6 fully.

The OP gives the exact break down for you

:ranger:

j4ck100 03-07-2013 08:02 AM

Contacted them and as expected they have told me nothing.

I also now remember the reason I used my real name, because on the last account, eBay sent a letter to the address with a pin, and here at university there is a post room and you need ID to get your letters.

So what's peoples best guess as to what got me ?

techbytes_uk 12:52:09
I just listed 1 item, that I genuinely have ready to ship to the winner

Wilma Rogers 12:52:48
Thanks for waiting. Firstly, looking at your account, I can see that there are some serious policy breaches, so I'm afraid we won't be reinstating your account. Please bear in mind that as your account is suspended, you won't be able to buy or sell on eBay or register a new account. You will still have to pay any fees you owe to eBay.

techbytes_uk 12:53:28
How do you mean policy breaches?

techbytes_uk 12:53:35
I haven't breached any policies?

Wilma Rogers 12:53:45
You'll find more detail on this under the 'Abusing eBay' heading of the eBay User Agreement. To read this, please open a new window on your browser and copy this link into it:

Read what Tizwoz said in post 23

You only need 3 things to link you.

So your picture was different? Did you remove the exif, so that they cannot trace the camera?
Was the title of the listing worded differently?
Was the account location different?

Because we know this :

1. Sold same item
2. Ebay account name is the same
3. Sold a computer component - which in some instances is high risk.

1. Listing picture was a photoshop amalgamation of different J-pegs, all new

2. Never sold an LCD inverter before

Something just isn't adding up

What about cookies or beacon's?

Run CCleaner everytime i login / out

You say
I also now remember the reason I used my real name, because on the last account, eBay sent a letter to the address with a pin, and here at university there is a post room and you need ID to get your letters

If you are using address that is used by hundreds of students then I'm going to guess that this is what got you linked. Surely someone would have used that address before
