| | | Killuminati | 05-14-2013 09:19 AM | Royal Mail Recorded Signed for Claim For Lost I sent a item royal mail 2nd class signed for the buyer says he or she has not received the item and it has been around a week and a half so i think it has been lost in the post
I have checked the tracking and it says Item was posted at my local post office and is being progressed through our network for delivery

| JamesNorth101 | 05-14-2013 09:31 AM | You need to wait for 15 working days until you can claim, and it then takes a number of weeks. You do need proof of the posted items value |
| gungadin | 05-14-2013 09:35 AM | they usually ask for purchase receipts of when you bought the item!
in 99% of the cases, the receipt is not to hand, so all Royal Mail will give you is the cost of the postage....
its happened to me too many times, so now i use Hermes couriers...much better and infinitely reliable...plus they come and pick your parcels up at your home...no need to go tramping to the post office!
royal mail is finished...last year i sold an expensive item to france, sent it by Signed for International delivery...buyer said he didnt get it (!)....so i claimed against royal mail...they asked me for the purchase receipt, which i had lost ages ago....so they just paid me the postage....and of course, paypal in thier infinite wisdom took the money out of my account to refund the buyer...i lost my item AND my money!
so now, i use hermes or other couriers...no probs since then! Quote:

Always use Parcel Force for international now via P4G or parcel monkey, and MyHermes for most recorded domestic (although I do have mixed feeling regarding myhermes). |

So does this mean i will not get the original value of the item ? |
| JamesNorth101 | 05-14-2013 10:49 AM | If you cannot prove the cost of the item with an invoice or receipt then you will just get a refund on the cost of postage. |
| Killuminati | 05-14-2013 11:04 AM | I do have a invoice but it only says the price of the whole order |
| JamesNorth101 | 05-14-2013 11:33 AM | Is there no individual price per unit? There should be on any deceleration when importing goods. |
| Killuminati | 05-14-2013 11:37 AM | Yes there is but it has been declared at a lower price |
| JamesNorth101 | 05-14-2013 11:38 AM | It will only be that price that you can claim for in that case. If you save money on import duties and VAT sometimes it means if something like this happens you can only claim for the declared amount |

| gungadin | 05-14-2013 03:06 PM | yep!
i was gutted, too!
i lost £290 from my paypal account whihc they refunded to the buyer PLUS i lost the valuable item!
my fault really...now i use only DHL, FEDEX or UPS for overseas, or Hermes for inland...and i agree about Hermes....sometimes their deliveries are way late.... Quote:

| Bulldog | 05-14-2013 10:04 PM | How would you make a claim with royal mail and a stealth account?
Don't royal mail want you to send in some ID and wouldn't they send your cheque to the stealth address ? |
| Ebayorbust | 05-15-2013 03:11 AM | I wouldn't lose all hope just yet. 10 days or so since posting 2nd class does not mean it is definitely a gonner.
I have sent items 2nd class before that have been delivered in over 2 weeks. It certainly doesn't look good but I'd be making the buyer wait a few more days yet before refunding.
Good luck. |

| ontheway | 05-18-2013 01:04 PM | Royal Mail has lost my 6 items this year, the first 4 months, none of them got compensation. They always have excuse. |

As a one off they might not reimburse you.
But four times suggests you needed to change the posting methods.
Too costly to line RM's pockets with your money.

| arktech | 05-18-2013 10:46 PM | some royal mail depots are unaware that 16cmm x 16 cm x 16cm or less up to 2 kilos is an exception and can charged as small parcel. they think anything over 8 cm is large parcel . buyer gets under weight charge of £4.63 (inc £1 handling charge). i rang to complain and op also didn't know this. see web page and then drop down to exceptions paragraph under tubes paragraph. |

This is the first time this has happened to me using signed for service i need to make a claim but i wanted to know what proof do i need to provide for the original proof value of the item ? | I have had this happen with the online tracking.. Sometimes it doesn't update even after the parcel has been delivered. I would ring Royal Mail up directly and get them to track your parcel. I did this last time the online tracking was at its first stage and never progressed.
I rang 'em and they said parcel had been delivered but the buyer wasn't at home so it was waiting at the buyers local collection centre. |
| Killuminati | 06-05-2013 09:16 AM | Update i made a claim and they sent me a cheque including postage paid the full value of the item and also the original price that the item sold for that is strange i thought they only compensate the postage paid and the value of the item | | All times are GMT -5.
