- - Selling an iPhone 5
( https://www.aspkin.com/forums/uk-ebay-paypal/61538-selling-iphone-5-a.html)
| Casterina | 06-28-2013 03:50 PM | Selling an iPhone 5 I've bought a iPhone 5 at the Apple Retail store in my area few months ago, now I want to sell it and get a different phone, I've 39 positive feedback on eBay, is there any tips on how to avoid scammers as this is a high risk item, I don't want buyer to open a case demaning a refund saying it's not working or it's not genuine as I've all the iPhone information and the receipt from Apple |
| desikanjar | 06-28-2013 06:10 PM | chances are you will get charged huge fees and then get messed about if the buyers an a**hole. |
| GreenBean | 06-28-2013 06:15 PM | 39 feedback is a bit low.
Why not look at other options? eg, gumtree?
Think carefully about ebay and avoid if possible |

Think carefully about ebay and avoid if possible | I know 39 feedback is low but if I sell on Gumtree, I've to meet up with the person to trade hand to hand, I don't want to do that, the world is getting bad, don't want to get mugged |
| GreenBean | 06-29-2013 10:12 AM | And you have not considered the mugging you will get from ebay or paypal?
Right.

Loads of people sell their phones that way. It's local, usually face to face so your in control, just make sure you don't meet any one when your on your own and it's cash in hand, no fees. |
| GreenBean | 06-29-2013 05:03 PM | You would never go to some meeting alone in any case
You would have another person with you. I would enlist the help of a male. You meet the other party somewhere safe
Just options to consider

| GoteBay | 06-30-2013 06:11 PM | Word of mouth or instead listing on eBayClassified is much better. I have lost a bit with dishonest buyers, if you find one of these, your world will look upside down. eBay does side with buyers in most cases; don't be a victim. |
| JamesNorth101 | 06-30-2013 06:16 PM | You would have to sell the phone for £600 to pay fees like that, and I am pretty sure iPhone 5's do not go for that much these days, new one is just around the corner after all.
If you sell the phone, only send to a verified address and make sure you post it with correct insurance value and make sure you get a signature on delivery. Make that clear on your listing and that will help deture the scammers.
Do not accept offers though the eBay messaging systems offering to buy it outside of eBay. More than likely a scam.
Just be careful who you sell it to. Check there feedback, feedback left for others ect.
Do not let someone pay via PayPal and then collect the item. That can turn bad very fast |
| GreenBean | 06-30-2013 06:21 PM | I still think avoiding ebay will work long term |

Suggestions such as Facebook and Gumtree are very good options. |
Still risky on eB but that is up to the OP to experiment and try - successful sellers of iPhones are unlikely to give explicit help/tactics for obvious reasons |
| Casterina | 07-04-2013 09:06 AM | What Buyer Requirement options should I select to avoid scammers? http://ultraimg.com/images/dtTwU.jpg
Also is there anything I should say in my listing and what images should I include? |

How you will post it, how long it will take you to post ect are other things to mention. |

Take lot of pictures before shipping out and keep proof - charge your buyer insurance and postage - dont skimp on the protection steps |

I normally include the postage in the price so it looks better
What Royal Mail service should I use? Do I tell the Post Office that the item worth is £500? |
| JamesNorth101 | 07-07-2013 03:04 PM | I would use Royal Mail Special Delivery, and tell them the value = to the receipt value. |

How do I charge my buyer insurance? Also do you know the estimate of how much it will cost to post it with Royal Mail Special Delivery? |

Do I give the buyer the Apple receipt or do I keep that? Also how would I pack the item as I normally use a plastic bin bag for parcels but I don't know that's the correct way |
| JamesNorth101 | 07-08-2013 06:03 AM | I would tell them the price I bought it for if I had the receipt because that makes a claim a lot simpler if its needed.
Keep the receipt, give them a photocopy if they ask for one
Pack it in a way that means it will not get damaged.... Bubble wrap springs to mind generally. |

| GreenBean | 07-08-2013 06:10 AM | Whatever else you do, NEVER let that receipt leave your possession.
Is none of this sounding like a pain yet?
Worry of the buyer, the postage, the handling, the payment.
Rethink before it is too late.
Good Luck
:peace: |
| GreenBean | 07-08-2013 06:11 AM | oops, What is Plan B if the phone does not sell?

Just use what ever you have, and make it look neat. |

| stevebills | 07-08-2013 08:25 PM | Sell it and get a Samsung S4.
The iphone 5 is overrated. I used to own one.
The paint chipped off the sides.
The battery lasted 4 hours and the screen is too small
Apple apps are a ripoff! |
